The Ozzman Killeth His Career, June 12, 2004
Released in 2002, The Ozzman Cometh was the first compilation available to the mass public for Ozzy Osbourne's solo career and a reissue of 1997's The Ozzman Cometh featuring newly remastered tracks(That means it sucks!).OK Ozzy, we get it! Just because you don't want to pay up to your original band members doesn't mean "Re-Recording" all of your original albums with new bandmates so you don't have to dole out a few dollars in the millions you have! And of course, Ozzy re-releases his Ozzman Cometh hit set because it contained the original songs, so he had to destroy all these songs for the new re-issue of the Ozzman Cometh with his incapable band. How the mighty have fallen! A combination of Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne's solo career, this compilation spans over 20 years of material in 15 songs. Is 15 songs enough to cover one of the most popular heavy metal artists of all time? Read on to find out! PROS- IT'S OZZY YAY!- Ozzy is one of the most memorable Heavy Metal artists of all time, and this album has Ozzy on it. Therefore, that's all I have to say good about this album! CONS-(PRE-HEATED TV DINNERS HAVE LESS THAN THIS) -BLACK SABBATH MATERIAL IS SERIOUSLY MISJUDGED-If you are going to put Black Sabbath material on here, I think you would need more than three songs to do so. Ozzy made a serious error when he decided to put Black Sabbath material on here, as too many songs are missing, most notably "N.I.B.", "Iron Man", "The Wizard", and many more. If we wanted Black Sabbath, Ozzy, we wouldn't be looking here would we?! -BLACK SABBATH MATERIAL SOUNDS TERRIBLE-For some reason, Ozzy decided to put the early "Basement Tape" versions of the first two Black Sabbath songs, and the sound quality is simply terrible. The only way you would get any enjoyment out of these songs is if you were seriously drunk or mentally challenged. The other Black Sabbath song, a live take on "Paranoid" from the album Tribute stands as one of the only good songs on The Ozzman Cometh. -ALL THE TRACKS AREN'T EVEN THE ORIGINALS EXCEPT A SELECT FEW-All the songs from before the album No Rest For The Wicked are all new "Re-Mastered" versions Ozzy has done with his new band, so all the songs you hear are not the originals at all, but just a bunch of tribute songs! Also, No More Tears is edited for some unknown reason! -THE LAST TWO TRACKS ARE NOT IMPRESSIVE- The previously unreleased track "Back On Earth" and "I Just Want You" from Ozzmosis catch Ozzy in his creative decline where guitars are less significant than the overdone synthesizers. I'm okay with synths, but Ozzy just way overdoes it. Not his best work! -WHERE IS "FLYING HIGH AGAIN"?WTF!-Without a doubt, along with "Crazy Train", "Flying High Again" has to be my favorite Ozzy songs, and since it's a MAJOR radio staple its abscense here is unforgiveable, but at least you don't have to hear the terrible edited version of it! -WHERE IS "I DON'T KNOW" AND "SHOT IN THE DARK"?WTF!-Without a doubt, "I Don't Know" and "Shot In the Dark" are two of Ozzy's biggest hits, so their abscense escapes reason! Why put "Goodbye To Romance" on here, which is not very famous, instead of the radio staple "I Don't Know"? The reason "Shot In the Dark" isn't on here is because Ozzy doesn't like the album Ultimate Sin, of which its from, but still it should be on a Greatest Hits package even if Ozzy doesn't like it! -"I DON'T WANT TO CHANGE THE WORLD" LIVE ISN'T THAT GOOD!- Why put an inferior version of a good song? This version pales in comparison to the studio version off No More Tears, and I don't see why Ozzy makes us suffer through a live track! -TOO EXPENSIVE!-Even if Amazon says it only costs 15 Dollars, at most stores this collection costs almost 20 Dollars, and that's a complete rip-off! For 15 terrible tracks, you shouldn't have to pay a rip-off price! -SEEMS LIKE AN AFTERTHOUGHT COMPARED TO THE ESSENTIAL OZZY OSBOURNE!-That collection has a much better track list and it has the original recordings of all the songs, so The Ozzman Cometh is looks like dog crap in comparison! That collection is also much better, and will only cost you a few more dollars than this travesty! Overall, this is a terrible compilation that only has about 4 tracks that have been unaltered, while all the rest have been changed and tainted with. Ommisions of songs like "I Don't Know", "Flying High Again", and "Shot In the Dark" make this collection incomplete, as those songs are some of his biggest hits. This was the first taste of Ozzy for me, and I almost didn't get any of his other stuff because this collection stunk so much. Thank god I picked up an original remastering of Blizzard of Ozz! Even the 1997 issue of The Ozzman Cometh is lacking, as it has "Shot In the Dark" yet doesn't have the other songs I wanted including "Miracle Man". NOT RECOMMENDED! EVEN IF YOU ARE A CASUAL FAN, THIS COMPILATION IS TERRIBLE! IF YOU WANT TO GET INTO OZZY, BUY BLIZZARD OF OZZ OR DIARY OF A MADMAN, AS THOSE ARE MUCH BETTER STARTS THAN THIS CRAP! IF YOU REALLY ONLY WANT A GREATEST HITS PACKAGE, CHECK OUT THE ESSENTIAL OZZY OSBOURNE! DON'T GET THIS, BECAUSE I DON'T WANT YOU TO GET THE WRONG IMPRESSION OF OZZY LIKE I DID! Thanks for Reading!
