Product Description

Product Description

The Virtually Indestructible Keyboard, a silicon-based flexible computer keyboard, features a unique combination of durability and soft, comfortable feel. The washable, "roll-able" keyboard has been called "the best thing to happen to typing since the backspace key." The VIK combines state-of-the-art technology with practical design to produce the perfect keyboard. The unique layout offers quick, reflexive typing action that is not only silent, but also more comfortable than standard hard plastic keyboards. The "flat-out" design eliminates negative-angle wrist stress, an unfortunate and impractical holdover from the archaic days of manual typewriters. The silicon-based material is impervious to most anything including water, coffee and cleaning solutions. From the classroom to the factory floor, the Virtually Indestructible Keyboard is poised to revolutionize how the world types.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Sweet Keyboard for the Computer Geek (Like me! ^_^), August 30, 2005
By Cougarmint "cougarmint" (Sierra Vista, Az) - See all my reviews
I bought this keyboard the other day on more of a whim than anything, as I saw it on display at Radio Shack and, for lack of better description, I was in love.

Its best features are:

1.) It is very silent- which allows my husband to sleep at night when I am typing on my novel (my best work comes at night.)

2.) It's light weight and compact- I have a lot more room now than I did when I had my wrist pad and plastic keyboard on my desk.

3.) It can be moved easily and placed almost anywhere- which is good when I am hand writing something or making a dream catcher at my desk.

4.) It lives up to its name of being indestructable- you can spill water all over it and it doesn't short out like other keyboards. If dust or crumbs fall into the keys, they brush off easily. I never have to worry about popping my keys out to remove dust or dirt again.

5.) It has a great response- I have noticed a huge improvement in my typing speed since using it (well, besides the fact that I am still learning to use it; I've only had it for a couple of days now.)

6.) It comes with a USB and a PS/2 adapter- you can use it with virtually any computer!

Now, to the cons:

1.) Learning- You do have to press a bit harder to use it (due to the nature of the keys,) and that can be very annoying if you are a proffessional typist who is used to the standard plastic keyboard.

2.) Some of the keys are closer together, so you do have a tendancy to make mistakes- especially when first learning on it. For the letter keys though, I find they are spaced a little farther apart from each other, which I find is a redemption due to the fact I have a tendancy to miss one letter and accidently hit another.

3.) Personally, I'm not fond of the fact that they split the space bar into two buttons, the main reason I gave it four stars instead of five. I always manage to hit right between the two, thus missing the space bar all together. But then, that comes with the learning curve.

In conclusion, the only real downfall is that you have to essentially "relearn" to type on the keyboard, but when you get used to it, it's actually very nice and comfortable. You can move it around if needed, which is a plus, especially if you do more at your desk than just play on the compuer. Add that to the fact that the keys no longer get stuck if you drop something between them, or short it out when you spill your coke onto it, the advantages really make up for the "relearning process."

3.0 out of 5 stars Love the concept - needs work, September 5, 2003
By C. Jesson "photographer" (Santa Ana, CA United States) - See all my reviews

I always have a cup of coffee near my keyboard & I found my wrists hurting from the odd angle of a regular keyboard, so I thought I had found the solution. I tried it for a week, but found I was making too many mistakes & cutting down my typing time because I couldn't hit the keys hard enough to make them register (especially with my left hand. I finally reinstalled my old keyboard. This would be great in a hazardous area (like the kitchen) where spillage or damage is an issue. Otherwise, stick to the regular style keyboard if you have to type more than a line.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cool idea- poor implementation, October 1, 2003
By Matthew Asnip "bibliophile" (Atlanta, GA United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is a nice keyboard for any area where spills occur frequently, but the layout and design of the keys make it unsuitable for regular use. The 'wake', 'sleep' and 'power' keys are just above the numeric keypad and just to the right of the pause key. I keep trying to pause my favorite game and keep winding up in the hell that is sleep/wake mode. The keys require an inordinate amount of force to use. The backspace and delete keys are actually smaller than the alphabetical keys, making them much harder to find when you make a mistake.

This is the perfect keybord for any unusually strong, thin-fingered flawless typists or for anyone who really has to type while in the bath tub. For the rest of us, this is more of a novelty item.

Good functional keyboard, not the easiest to type on, nothing compared to a wireless Microsoft keyboard but acceptable. Easy to store and carry around.
