A basic Matrix unit is made up of an isolation module, an electronics module, and external SmartCell battery packs. In older UPS designs, the component most likely to fail (the battery) is an integral part of the UPS enclosure. In the Matrix modular design, batteries are easily hot swappable with no downtime. The weak link becomes the isolation unit, the module least likely to fail. Reliability is dramatically enhanced versus a conventional "all in one" design. Moreover, Matrix can be swapped-out or repaired on-site by an untrained employee without load interruption. This reduces Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) from a matter of days or weeks to a matter of minutes.

We use an old Matrix 5000 system that uses these Smartcell batteries in them. When I ordered this one it was because we had one just go bad. The install date was 1993. They are a super battery and last a long time not to mention they are hot swappable. Very easy to install in our system and was mailed here 5 days faster then the assumed ship date.
