Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Upon her 1999 debut release, Eve Jeffers described herself as "a pit bull in a skirt," but each of her subsequent albums have allowed hip-hop's favorite bombshell to successfully upgrade her image. At this point in her career, Eve is reppin' for the smart and stylish urban female on the go. Graced with witty lyrics (for the most part penned by Ms. Jeffers herself) and just-commercial-enough music, Eve-olution allows the Philly rapper's strong personality and considerable mic skills to shine. The radio-friendly "Gangsta Lovin'" (with the always-buoyant Alicia Keys handling hook duty) and the flirtatious banter of "Figure You Out" (a duet with the up-and-coming rapper-producer, Teflon) underscore the fact that this girl's got game and doesn't care who knows it. Eve's hardcore side is nicely showcased on such tunes as "Ryde Away" (produced by the consistently brilliant Bink) and "Double R What," which features her fellow Ruff Ryders, Jadakiss and Styles of the Lox. --Rebecca Levine

4.0 out of 5 stars Eve-olution, August 29, 2002
By marcus d (england) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Eve-Olution (Audio CD)
Since the release of Eve's debut album(firstlady), eve has been broadening her talent in music and she hasnt been restricting herself to the same ol hiphop beats and hi hats. this shows throughout her album eve-olution. she rhymes on beats diffrent from the usual rap beats and she does well. her collaborations with swizzbeatz(not surprising), dr.dre, the lox, truth hurts and alicia keys, help this album to come out top. the first collabo with dr dre on the album is 'what' and the beat sounds like one taken off the chronic and is a typical dr dre beat good all the same and it matches perfectly with eve's rhyimng skill. party in the rain produced by swizz beatz is something new completely. it will take a few listens 4 u to get used to it. its good tho cos it portrays swizz beatz broadening imagination via music creation and also shows eve to have an ability to rhyme on even the most weird beats. gangsta loving no doubt is one of the best but probably the best tune on this album is Double R where Eve raps alongside Fellow ruffryderz jadakiss and styles.(wonder y sheek doesnt appear.)all in all this is a must have for the ruffryder fans and eve fans. certainly worth having for those keen on hearing something new.

1.0 out of 5 stars Pop Album or Rap Album... Either way it ..., August 28, 2002
By Jason "used cd junkie" (hollywood Fl United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Eve-Olution (Audio CD)
Luckily I heard this album off of a streaming web site, and I nearly fell asleep. The first track "What" with Face Hurts is really well done, trippy beat, and Eve provides some decent lyrics. Gangsta Lovin is the radio smash of the summer, that doesn't mean its good. Irresstable Chick and Party in the Rain sound like something Jessica Simpson would do, and it comes off very bad on Eves part, the chrous' are catch however. Basically, this album falls after number 3, and it falls hard to the floor. Eves lyricism is extremley boring, and she is not saying much behind these nice beats. If you were smart, you would wait for November when Foxy Brown drops 'The Fever' on everyone.
