Causing a Catastrophe is the awesome new live CD from Flickerstick that boasts their undeniable skills as a killer live band. The album features two new tracks called "Telling All the World" and "Believe" which show a definite maturity in the bands songwriting. The album also contains the groups amazing cover of Mazzy Star's "Fade Into You." The album contains classic Welcoming Home the Astronauts tracks like "Coke", "Beautiful", and "Direct Line to the Telepathic". The album is a brilliant live offering from the band and I recommend picking it up as soon as you can.

So many people have a limited knowledge base of this band from Dallas, Texas. Listeners typically know them from their stint on VH1 or may have heard their Epic release, but "Causing a Catastrophy" is the real deal. Flickerstick impressed me from the start, but it was when I saw them live for the first time that I was hooked, and now everyone can have near the same experience with their latest release. The band thrives on stage and it is apparent through their music. The songs are well selected with some of their best material from "Welcoming Home the Astronauts" as well as two new songs and the Mazzy Star cover, "Fade Into You". The album is artfully recorded and mixed unveiling the true sound that Flickerstick fans have been enjoying for quite some time. Get this album! You won't regret it.

Fresh off of the Welcoming Home the Astronauts tour Flickerstick joined a sizeable crowd in Deep Ellum, the heart of Dallas' local music scene and recorded a gem. Many won't understand just how good the music is. After releasing Welcoming Home the Astronauts and coming off of a somewhat highly publicized television show, the band lives up to what it has professed all along. Their live shows rock your socks off. The music is astoundingly heartfelt and the sound quality doesn't resemble that of your brother's bootlegged copy of the same show just a month before. The album opens with a mellow and sweet version of "Direct Line to the Telepathic" and heads straight into the romping "Gotta Feeling". Two new songs "Believe" and "Telling All the World" are included in the track listing. This only intensifies the want of another album by the underdogs. A cover of Mazzy Star's "Fade into You" only amplifies the ability of the band to do justice to a wonderful work of art.
The members of Flickerstick are making their mark on the music business, and thank the heavens for it. Causing a Catastrophe is the album that you'll happen to pick up and you'll find that it won't leave your cd player for quite some time.

Seldom are the times when you check out a live performance of your favorite group and it turns out that the live show actually measures up to their studio recording. I'm happy to report that Flickerstick's deliverance on stage far surpasses anything that could be captured by a savvy studio producer or engineer.
If you're reding this review, you are more than likely well acquainted with either of the band's previous studio efforts. And if you have not had the fortune of witnessing Flickerstick in your town, then this CD might give you some insight. No boom mike or straight-off-the-mixing board tape will probably compare to the electricity when Brandon wails with unpretentious delivery, or when Dom (I'm your LEGAL representative) pounds the Marlboro smoke out of your lungs, as Cory and Rex trade nails-to-the-chalkboard guitar textures and Fletch anchors this insanity like the real live performance. But this CD, as much as a digital rendering can, draws a virtual experince unlike most live recodings.
If U2's "Under a Blood Red Sky" or Cheap Trick's "Live at Budokan" quenched your vicarious craving for those live goosebumps, then this is your record.
"Causing a Catastrophy Live" is an apt title for such a well-orchestrated group.

I've always rated a Band/Singer's artistic talent, on it's ability to perform LIVE. Some Bands with Cd's sound ok or horrible performing Live. Those bands are unable to live up to their own "hype" recording.
Flickerstick performs better than the CD, which I thought would be impossible. I love the Original CD " Welcoming Home the Astronauts", But this new LIVE CD is Incredible! The vocal inflections, the interaction with the audience,etc.. make this CD-"CATASTROPHE",a MUST HAVE, for Fans and those looking for a Rock Band with a HEART and a SOUL. A rare Quality for a Band to possess.
Buy this CD and listen to the Music, it is Magical. Flickerstick is a Band exploding their way toward Superstardom, Catch them on their Blast up towards the Stars.

With the sudden rush of live albums being made hardly any of them make any memorable impressions. Metallica's S&M had too many of Load and Reload on there. Nine Inch Nail's And All That Could Have Been while a great album isn't one show and it kind of takes away from the thrill. However being present at the Flickerstick show in Deep Ellum, I can officially say they captured the full energy and craziness of that show. I was dissappointed to see "Hey" didn't make the cut even though it was played during this gig. Hearing the new tracks "Believe" and "Telling All The World" makes me anticipate their new album even more.
