Spellbinding, breathtaking, and just plain wonderful., March 11, 2003
Although met with scrutiny, KINGDOM HEARTS turned out to be easily one of the best games available for the PS2, not to mention one of the most heartfelt. Obviously no expense or effort was spared in this tremendous labour of love, a fact which is brought to light even stronger by this impressive double-CD set.Although it has been available in Japan for quite some time now (I got mine in September of 2002), it's just now making its debut on Amazon.com and I can't begin to recommend it enough. Just one listen to a few seconds of the music stripped away from its accompanying game will impress anyone who aren't even enchanted by games: sweeping through a huge panorama of moods from the gentle wistfulness of the opening "Dearly Beloved" to the motion picture-style epic quality of the main theme that moves you with all the grace and dramatic sweep of a traditional Hollywood score, the KINGDOM HEARTS soundtracks swells with effortless varity offering both the gentle and the complex. It even has a pop song written specifically for it (translated "Simple and Clean"). And yes, KH fans, it does have every piece of music in the game. And even more so: Disc 2 sports the bonus cuts "Having a Wild Time (Previous Version)" and "Destati". Because the game itself is so moody, the musical variety here is guaranteed to never be dull. You get traditional Disney ("Mickey Mouse March"... yes, THAT Mickey Mouse March) and the more recent ("Under The Sea", "This is Halloween") and new touch-ups of Disney faves created for perfect mood and atompshere as opposed to being merely a simple carbon copy of the original ("Winnie The Pooh") mixed with the absolutely spellbinding new compositions: tracks such as "The End of The World" inspire genuine awe with their delicate arrangements and choir vocalizations, and both "Hollow Bastion" and its accompanying battle track "Scherzo di notte" use orchestration to its fullest extention with feelings of fear, drama and desperation. This huge set is worth every penny. If you enjoy the game, you MUST get this, no excuses. Also, if you happen to be merely a longtime Disney admirer who hasn't played the game yet (as I was when I first heard this one) then by all means check it out anyway! You will love every moment of it, I promise you. Well, maybe not the "Mickey Mouse March" or "Under The Sea" since everyone has gotten so sick of hearing those ones so darn much, but everything else. So why are you still sitting there merely reading this? Don't you understand? You've got to check this one out. It OWNS you! ;)
