4.0 out of 5 stars Rough but fascinating, December 11, 2007
Having grown up just a few miles from the area where these characters trapped, I can tell you that they chose a tough way to spend the winter. There were many great scenes in this wonderful film but the best part of the whole thing was revisiting Mr. Wagg thirty-some years later. Fantastic!

5.0 out of 5 stars The REAL Vacationland, October 7, 2006
By Replacetvdisc "edgevideo" (Bangor, Maine USA) - See all my reviews
Life in Maine has never been captured on film better than this. No Hollywood bucks or slick director could ever re-create the moments in this "rough cut". If you ever wondered about the world beyond the Maine coast, GET THIS FILM!

5.0 out of 5 stars poetic documentary of bygone era, December 17, 2005
By Jack Bolinksi (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews
Dead River Rough Cut follows the hardscrabble lives of two woodsmen friends living in remote Northern Maine in the 1970s. The salty wisdom of these two men is priceless. The film, shot over several seasons, offers an unusual portrayal of friendship and an honest, fascinating look into a very different lifestyle.
