This was one of those fabulous 80's movies that Shelley Long made after her surprising "Cheers" departure. As a kid growing up, I loved this movie because it was so funny. My brother and I would watch it all the time, it got to a point where we memorized most of the lines (...blue-light special, isle thirteen...cookies...)

"Troop Beverly Hills" is a the story of a Beverly Hills homemaker (who's going through a divorce) that attempts to lead her daughter's wilderness girl troop. Phyllis Nefler (played by "Cheers" star Shelley Long) leads this group of spoiled Beverly Hills princesses.

Along their journey, they learn how to be "real wilderness girls" in a non conventional way while fighting the evils of Vesta Plendor (played by the very funny Betty Thomas.) Vesta will stop at nothing to prove Phyllis and her troop are nothing more than a group of pampered Beverly Hills brats.

Audra Lindley (Mrs. Roper from "Three's Company") also has a small part in this movie as Francis Temple, the good-natured wilderness girl official. Ironically, Tori Spelling (of 90210 fame) also has a small part belittling the girls from Beverly Hills!

If you're looking for classic 80's movies that are slightly off the beaten path, that everyone will love, I also recommend: Three for the Road, Who's That Girl?,

Although I did not get to see this movie until I was about 13 (I'm 18 now), I have to say that this is an absolutely hilarious movie! How can you not love seeing these spoiled Beverly Hills girls doing what they consider "roughing it" by sleeping at the Beverly Hills hotel, or making a dress-rack backpack for the craft fair? In the end though, they show that money may buy you the world, but it's true spirit that wins the race. A funny movie, with an excellent message. Buy it, watch it, you won't be disappointed!

Great story, especially for my daughters that are now girl scouts! BUT there are curse words throughout the whole movie! No F-bombs, mostly sh-- and d-m. I don't remember if the h-word is there or not. But it's not like my kids don't hear those words at school! Just be aware that if you don't want your kids to hear curse words, then don't watch this. Oh and Shelly Long smokes a lot, and the girls in the troop tell her she shouldn't smoke lol. But the story is great and the movie is fun, if not for the curse words I would have given it 5 stars!!!

One of my favourite "pick-me-up" films, TROOP BEVERLY HILLS is a hilarious romp filled with big belly laughs!
Shelley Long (one really under-appreciated actress) plays Phyllis Nefler, a spoiled socialite whose marriage is on the rocks. She agrees to take the helm of her daughter's wilderness girl troop, to engage in some long-overdue bonding.
Along the way, she encounters the bitchy wilderness girl leader Velda Plendor (played perfectly by Betty Thomas) and the mousy little Annie (played by Mary Gross). The "ordeal" also reunites her with her husband (Craig T. Nelson), and the maid Rossario (Shelly Morrison) could not be happier!
A truly star-studded film, boasting cameos by Dr. Joyce Brothers, Pia Zadora, Annette Funicello, Frankie Avalon, Pee-Wee Herman, and many more!

"Troop Beverly HIlls" is one of my all time favorite comedies. It is the story of a very self-centered and wealthy Beverly HIlls wife in the throes of a divorce, who decides to take over the girl scout troop of Beverly Hills. Her nemesis is a no-nonsense, do-anything-to-win survivalist woman.

While the survivalist's troop is out skinning skunks and felling trees, the Beverly Hills girls are being taught to appraise diamonds and where to get the best facials by their troop leader, Shelly Long. This battle between the 2 troop leaders is absolutely hysterical with Shelly appearing to be an airhead, who seems to best the survivalist troop leader at every turn.

Anytime I am feeling down, I pull out this movie and laugh my head off. I highly recommend to everyone. It is a wonderful comedy that the whole family can share.

I never get tired of watching this movie. I love the clothes Shelley wears. They are way out there Hollywood dramatic. And this is such a cute story and is actually a didactic comedy. There is something valuable to be learned here.

This movie came out when I was very young and just after my parents had separated. Perhaps that was the reason I ended up loving it so much when I was young. My Dad says that he kept it on whatever version of technology was out back then for my sister and I to watch whenever we visited. Once that version of technology was no longer popular we ended up not watching it anymore when we visited him (plus we grew up). I bought this recently to watch again and even though it has been many, many years I can say without a doubt that it is still very funny and heartwarming. I'm not sure what took me so long to even look it up on DVD but I'm so glad I did! This is one of those dvds that will be watched many more times in the future!
