Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Stylish as well as convenient, the VTech v2651 2.4 GHz cordless phone offers digital spread spectrum technology, base speakerphones and keypads, caller ID/call waiting capability (if you've subscribed through your local phone company) with 50-name and number caller ID memory, and a 50-name and number phone book directory. Tired of hunting for the handset? A handy page/handset locator ensures that you'll never waste another minute tracking it down.

Use the phone's intercom to make conference calls, and take advantage of smart dialing from caller ID to call people back without having to enter their numbers. Other key features include any-key answer (which saves time in answering when you're in danger of missing a call), backlit keypad and display, mute, and 2.5 mm headset compatibility for hands-free conversations (headset not included).

Digital spread spectrum technology uses a wider bandwidth than standard transmission, casting the data that makes your conversations across multiple frequency points and at greater power than do traditional cordless phones. This increases your phone's range, enhances its immunity to noise and interference, and heightens its ability to prevent eavesdropping.

You can expand the v2651 to include a total of four handsets using only a single, standard phone jack (three additional v2600 handsets not included), and you can station the additional handsets just about anywhere in your home. The included handset and the optional handsets communicate through the base unit and can each function as speakerphones and allow handset-to-handset communication. Each handset offers programmable ringer types.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice features but poor quality, November 5, 2003
By A Customer
Even though the box clearly states that this 2.4Ghz phone is "802.11 Friendly", I seem to get interface on this phone anywhere in my home. This is the first 2.4Ghz phone that I've had this problem with. There is no option to switch channels (DSS). There is a constant buzz on the line.

Another absolutely irritating thing is that fact that the dialpad is soo slow and will often miss a number when you dial it in.

4.0 out of 5 stars ok phone great for price, August 23, 2005
It is an overall good phone with many practical uses. And for the price I got it ($20 after mail in rebate at staples), it was worth every penny. I liked it so much I went back to the store and purchased 2 more for around the home to be able to use the intercom feature. This was cheaper than buying 2 v2600 handsets alone. The two extra phones connect to the main base, but charge on thier own base. I am able to intercom upstairs to the family rather than yelling. Also I like the fact that the handsets have a speaker system by themselves (so does the base station) so I don't have to hold it up to my ears when I'm not around the base. The signal is decent at times, but when used for a long time it starts getting staticy (this may also be due to the interference of my wireless b internet network). Another possible reason is because of the small antenna on the handset, and lack of an antenna on the base. I like the base's dialing feature which allows it to dial without the handset. Overall I think this is a practical solution for a phone replacement (my old one's battery died). For 20 bucks, it was way better than buying another set of phone batteries at $15.

2.0 out of 5 stars Seems great--but..., February 8, 2004
By "ashlawnandbarboza" (Arlington, VA United States) - See all my reviews
I was really pleased with the base/speaker phone when I purchased the original unit. Usually people cannot tell when I am on the handset or the base speakerphone because of the excellent sound quality. But the reason we purchased this unit was to be able to add additional handsets. The sound quality from the second handset is extremely poor. Moreover, sometimes when both handsets are in use that seems to cause both handsets to lose contact with the base and the call is lost.

I don't want any special features on my phone, other than multiple handsets. This phone seems to have a lot of neat futures. If I had designed this, however, I would have dropped some of the features and designed a system which allows the person with whom you are talking to actually understand what you are saying. Maybe you need to buy a more expensive model to get that particular feature.
