BOTTOM LINE: 2 GREAT KIDS VIDEO ON 1 DVD = TERRIFIC CHOICE!

Catching and compelling, you and your kids will enjoy these silly, fun tunes more each time you hear them. This DVD is definitely the way to go, as we wore out our VHS copies several times over the past 18 years. Also, you may be able to find this DVD which contains 2 videos in the $5. bin a Wal-Mart and Target.

One tip, if you want this DVD to last, don't let your eager toddlers handle the DVD as they can easily be scratched or smudged by their sticky little well-meaning hands, unlike the conventional VHS versions.

This video will either be a great hit, or it won't. When I first put the video in the VCR I geared up for a disappointment - I think this was filmed in the 80s, and the production quality is on the low side...but I was surprised! My 2 year-old absolutely adored it, and he didn't care that it looked home-made. And, best of all, I didn't find it irritating. Hap Palmer has a smooth, enjoyable voice, and his songs are homey and easy to sing along with. I get a real kick out of some of the lyrics he sings without busting out laughing! Can you imagine standing with a guitar and singing "I have a little potty of my very own, it has a yellow duckie to hold on to," without laughing? Good for him.
My son will put this video in the VCR by himself. And if I put it in, he will stop what he's doing and settle down to watch. It's a perfect length at just about 30 minutes, and the animated segments in between songs are well done and your little one will be able to identify them. I think the worst segment on the video is the last, which uses a really hokey marionnette sequence - talk about piles of fishing line all over the screen! The song is OK, so I just shut my eyes or walk out of the room for that one :-)
But on the whole, it's surprisingly good enough and engaging enough that I'd have no problem expanding my Hap Palmer library. It just goes to show you that often simple IS best.

I'm purchasing this for a dear friend with a two year old. We bought this for our baby (who is now 7 years old!). Of all the videos we were privy to see, this was the BEST! It is absolutely delightful, with wonderful melodies and great subject choices. Going barefoot, sharing, imagination, are some of the marvelous topics. We were able to listen to and watch this countless times without boredom. Words cannot describe how appropriate this is for a young child up to at least age 3. My video was not loaded with countless and boring advertisements that so many commercial videos force feed you with. This is a very special video that you will want to recommend to everyone!

This video is a series of original songs with (primarily) live-action videos. The music is fairly attractive for children from the age of toddler to about 5 years (maybe). The visuals are very warm and homey showing toddlers and pre-schoolers in their world laughing, playing and doing other things that toddlers / pre-schoolers usually do. Its 'feel' reminds me of the rosiness that Sesame Street exudes in its live-action clips. The video has a home-made quality which I think adds a nice touch, but is quite noticeable to those who prefer higher production quality.
My four-year-old daughter immediately picked-up on the lyrics and can sing them to herself. I wish I had 'discovered' this video for her when she was still a toddler, because the messages of many of the songs could have been useful for potty-training and separation anxiety, among other things. But, she never chooses this video to watch, because I think she has outgrown the message and appeal.
On the other hand, the video is still beyond my nine-month old daughter. She much prefers the videos of Baby Einstein & Teletubbies. I bought this video in hopes of adding diversity to what we allow her to watch, but she is just not interested in this video. We have over 100 videos (no, I do not use the VCR as a babysitter, but my kids watch no broadcast TV; and living abroad, videos provide the opportunity for English language practice and American cultural exposure). I cannot honestly say that this is a favorite of either of my children. I anticipate revisiting this video with my younger daughter with greater success when she is 15-18 months.
