Ahh, what a pleasure to use this pot. Easy to cook with, great for sauce reductions, works great for ethnic foods, easy to stir, easy to carry, great size on the stove top, easy to clean, feels much lighter than the traditional all hard anodized pots .....and so attractive.
If I were to own only one pot, this contempo. 5 qt. quart pot would be it! This is Calphalon at their best.
Hopefully they will come out with a 10-16 quart. version of this pot.

This pot replaces a virtually identical one that developed scratched Teflon on the inside bottom so my wife thought we should replace it. My wife initially resisted vociferously when, some years ago, I suggested we replace tinny cookware with quality Calphalon pots and pans. She complained that they were too heavy but has since fallen in love with them just because they are heavy and cook so well. She's a superb cook - better than almost all restaurants of any price - and she needs the proper tools to do the best job. We've never regretted buying the top of the line Calphalon cookware.

Great pot. I use it a couple times a week and it is still working wonderfully. Hopefully many more years of delicious meals. I have a flat top stove and this pot always heats quickly and nice an evenly. I use it for everything. My only fault would be that the handles and get very hot but I expected that. Some other models have coated handles which might solve this but I love this one.

Pros: 2 years and not sticking

Cons: Handles get hot

Update: 3 years and now things are sticking

I have had this for some time, and it is a tank. The reviewer below was right when he said that if you only own one pot, make this it. Sauces, stews, chili, jambalaya, roux-based dishes. This can handle it. I've used it to boil pasta, in a pinch. It is also great in the oven. It is a champ at braising. At 200 degrees in the oven, sealed, it does the work of a crock-pot -- maybe better, because the oven heat carmelizes the food. I am so glad I own one!

I traded eggs for oatmeal in order to eat healthy this year and in order
to save time, was making a week's worth of oatmeal on Saturdays.

Using my All clad pan, I simmered "my" mix: wheat bran, steel cut oats and oatbran
for 25-30 min. The mix stuck really bad to the bottom of the pan and I had to
soak and scrub the All Clad pan like crazy.

Last week, I used this Calpalon pan using the same exact recipe and method.
About half way through cooking, I noticed that the mix was pulling away from the
sides (like releasing) and when I poured the cooked mix into a container for
the frig, the entire batch came free from the bottom! No sticking! I did
remove some of the hardened "skin" of the oatmeal, but clean up was SOOO easy!

I did have to scrub a bit around the rivits.

I am thinking about getting another pan, but really, this 5 quart would take
care of most of my daily dinner needs. It's wonderful!

This is a very nice pot. However, please be informed that the handles on this pot do get hot, as does the lid handle. I have the Calphalon Contemporary 2.5 qt. shallow saucepan with the long handle, and I have not noticed this problem with the longer handle.

I am not a cook, don't enjoy cooking, but I love this pot! It cooks very well, it's great for making soups and casseroles. It cleans very easily. Things I make that I used to use a skillet, then another pot or pan, I can do it all here! It's a perfect size. I looked for a long time for a pot this size, received this as a gift, and I will definitely be purchasing more Calphalon products. Very impressed with the quality versatility, and practicallity. Perfect for cooking for a family.

Overall I love all the features of Calphalon Contemporary Nonstick pans. I gave it
the 4 star rating, because I expected a deeper pan over the wider shape. It is
more like a casserole pan.
