In reality I really liked this product in its old caase design which is shown in the photo. It is nice and compact however what I got was an updated version (not shown) where the casing is much bigger and not what I wanted. I ended up take apart my new one to replace the tape on my old one and now I'm happy again...

Pretty good tape but it takes a while to rewind for some reason when you get it out past ~35 ft. Not a huge issue as we only use it to measure the distance from home plate to the pitcher's rubber that we install to practice pitching a few times a week, but if you're relying on this multiple times a day, you may want to look for something a little better quality.

This item had very high reviews, but I didn't realize that they were almost all for the 25-foot version and none of them were for the 50-foot longtape. The two are totally different. The 50 foot one doesn't retract itself (there is a crank), and is flimsier and much thinner. I can live with this though.

The most absolutely brain-dead part about this product is that the first marking is the 2-inch mark, which comes 1 inch after the beginning of the tape. So if you line up the head of the tape with something, then the 2-inch mark is actually 1 inch away, the 1-foot mark is actually 11 inches away, etc. Totally stupid. Graphically, instead of:

|-1-2-3-...

it's instead:

|-2-3-4-...

where each - is 1 inch of space.

pretty durable as I used this daily as an appraiser. Being a metal tape, it started to rust along the edges after using in many a snowstorm and the paint was starting to wear off making it harder to read but i used much more than an average person would use. Significantly more compact than the Keson fiberglass 50' tape.

Well, a tape is a tape. Not exactly if you've used poor ones. This is a great 50 ft tape in a tough case. Used these for years at work, and they are the best out these. Not too heavy. This is a flexible tape, not a wide stiff 1 inch tape as in a 25 ft tape (where one often uses it's rigidity to measure up to the ceiling etc.) These last a long time.

I ordered this tape measure to replace a defective one I'd purchased from an office supply website (I thought it was a different one but it was the exact same). Each came from different distributors, but both arrived in non-working order. Specifically, once the tape was extended the wind-up mechanism did not work to return the tape to the casing. I had a coworker try it to be sure it wasn't operator error on my part and he was also unable to re-wind the measuring tape.

After holding it on its side -- tilting it vertically -- and shaking it around, something must have clicked into place and we were then able to use the winding crank.

So, we now have two functioning tape measures that arrived seemingly damaged. Buyer beware -- I would advise someone to just pony up the extra $ for a well-made metal tape measure rather than this shoddy plastic one.

First time trying to wind the tape measure after I first opened it and the it didn't work. Luckily only 4 screws hold the case together so I was able to open in up, reset the measure and wind it back up properly. Nice and light though.

This tape measure is indeed fifty feet long. Note that it doesn't retract automatically, but you reel it in.
