Great Service

My DIRECTV system has 2 round dishes, each with a dual LNB. Both of my LNBs were damaged this Fall by birds pecking at the plastic cover, damaging them to the point where they each had to be replaced. This is a fairly sinple procedure, if you have the correct replacement parts. These replacement LNBs were shipped fom CA to WI, and arrived a day ahead of schedule. I replaced the units, and they're both working just fine now. Great service, good shipping and delivery time.

A Simple Solution for Improving DirecTV Signal Strength

I have been a DirecTV owner for over 10 years. I have had to replace the LNB twice due to weatherng and decreased signal strength. The RCA Dual LNB is a no-brainer. Perfect fit for older DirecTV dishes. Simple install which takes about 5 minutes. If you need a replacement LNB for an older DirecTV dish this is it.

Update: After 3.5 years my old RCA LNB cracked from the ice and snow. The 5 star review was for that product. I ordered this LNB thinking it was like my old RCA product but it is really the same as this LNB http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SX3SYAY?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00 at a higher price.

Great price and performance.

I've been a DirecTV customer since 2002. The white plastic cover over the LNB nose cone on my original dish had disintegrated a couple of years ago so I put a Ziploc bag over it to keep the rain out and it worked fine until the latest storm which blew the bag away and soaked the LNB and we lost the signal. So, I dried it out with a hair dryer and it started working again but the satellite signal strength was not what it used to be so I order this as a replacement. It went in easily and this one came with the additional feature of rubber sleeves that the coax connectors slid under when you connect them. That should make that connection a bit more weather proof. Anyway, the satellite signal strength on all transponders jumped up by about 10 to 30 points and no more Ziploc bag :-)

P.S. I should note that when I said Great price above, I paid only $10.09 for this though it seems to have gone up since then.

Ii had a problem with my RCA DRD435RH DirecTv set top box, that I was unable to find recommendations for by googling the symptoms.

THE PROBLEM:
The system crashed hard. No video, power light blinking

THE SYMPTOMS
power light blinks, its not a 'message waiting' blink
soft reset (depress and hold power button for 15 seconds) does not reset, keeps blinking
power cycle (unplug wait 5, replug) goes back to blinking.
longer unplugged times can get to the searching for satellite video message, but then it crashes again
being unplugged for a long time can let it come back

THE CLUE
disconnecting the LNB allowed the brief unplug method to get the box all the way to "Searching for satellite" stage.

THE HYPOTHESIS:
Some part in the LNB gets hot, and only starts working again if allowed to cool
(as a aside, another DTV system I had once developed a problem that it only worked at night. It was a thermal problem in the LNB due to the hot sun. While waiting for the replacement part, if I wanted to watch TV during daylight, I had to hose down the LNB with the garden hose)

THE FIX:
Apparently this part. At least after 72 hours, the signs seem good. No blinking light crashes.

Update:

After working flawlessly for more than 2 weeks, I got a blinking light crash. A power reset brought it back. But eventually it's deteriorated to once every few days.

Now the technical question becomes is this infant mortality on the LNB, or does the DRD435RH slowly destroy LNBs. I've swapped sides on the dual LNB, and again have gone a lot longer than before without going into the blinking crash, which sort of verifies it is related to the LNB.Read more ›

dual lnb review

Lost the picture on my tv. Called the cable company and was informed that for fifty dollars they would come look at it.Purchased the dual lnb and it came to my house in two days. Took out the old lnb and installed the new one and the tv is back working just fine. All I had to do was remove one screw and two cable connections, which is very easy. Went out to diner on the money I saved.

Easy, do it yourself.

This is my third dual LNBF unit. It replaces one that lasted more than five years. Old unit began to cut off every two hours. The screen said 'one moment please, as we access the signal'. Both channels started fresh after the several minute reboot. Replacement was simple. A two inch nut and bolt hold the unit on the arm. The nut is smaller than 10mm and is on the underside. I was careful not to knock the dish out of alignment. Two coax cables screw into LNBF unit. All was back to normal, but later the symptoms returned. How sad. The next day I turned on the TV and all was well! That's how it worked for me. The $16 LNBF unit arrive in a few days. Plain brown box. DirecTV imprinted on the unit's sticker/label. The seam where the two housing halves meet doesn't look watertight. A tiny gap on top is there for a reason, I guess. -Three days later a robo/ automated call says the problem with Tivo rebooting was their problem. They'll give me a $10 credit on next bill. Didn't see that coming. The old unit is still good and will be a spare.
