I bought these speakers initially for upgrading my 5.1 home theater system to 7.1 especially for their power handling, bass response level and past experience with BIC America products.

My room wasn't the right layout for these speakers, so I immediately decided to use them outdoors to replace my worn Bose 151s on the deck. A quick swap of the grilles to the outdoor set included and they were in business.

These Adatto DV52si completely blow away the Bose 151. Superb dynamic range from high to low. We're talking WOW! Even though the speakers are mounted on the house, the base shook my deck.

You simply cannot buy better outdoor speakers at any price or overhyped brand!

UPDATE:
Its now five years later since (2006 - 2011) I first purchased these speakers and I just bought another pair to replace the originals that have served us well outdoors on the patio & deck. These speakers while never directly exposed to rain and snow, have endured high humidity, temperatures into the 100s and extreme cold including days of of sub-zero temperatures. I haven't seen any direct wear or damage on the speaker cones of the originals, but I do note some slight distortion now when I crank them up. Low volume still fine. Thus the new pair. I'm keeping the old ones and will test them out on equipment indoors.

Before buying these again, I reconsidered Bose outdoor speakers, along with JBLs, Infinity, Polk and Klipsh and Yamaha. We can afford any of these, but the purpose of buying speakers is for their sound. I'm sorry but none of those brands, while appearing to have higher sales volume, actually out perform these BICs in sound quality. It's important to have reasonable expectations of what you'll get from a speaker designed for outdoor use.Read more ›

This is the second time I've purchased these speakers for my outdoor deck. The first set lasted about 13 years. They probably would have lasted even longer if I'd brought them inside every winter. The sound is great for this price range. originally I compared them to a set of outdoor speakers from a high-end stereo shop...these sounded much better to me. They don't come with any kind of bracket to attach them to a wall, but they have two holes on the back of each speaker, and they provide a template, so it's fairly easy to figure out. The second set I purchased were exactly the same size as the first...so they fit on the same screws I had installed thirteen years ago. One downside might be that they don't swivel, but if you install them facing the direction you want them to be in it shouldn't be a problem. I have had many years of enjoyment from these speakers...and compliments too.

awesome...awesome....awesome...I have changed all of my speakers to BIC....they blow my old Onkyo's away.....I am using the bad boys for the above rear in my Atmos home theater and absolutely love the full sound coming at me from every direction...if you are in the market for some speakers do not shrug your shoulders at BIC....they are... i was initially happy with these speakers. I hung them outside under my eves for when we're outside entertaining or in the pool.
Within a month one speaker quit working. No big deal they have an excellent warranty. Wrong!!
I tried contacting by email and phone. The warranty department is an answering machine. I left a message and never heard back. Called and left another message. Nothing.
I will be staying clear of this brand from now on.

These speakers have decent sound, and the most compact size I've seen with a 5.25" ported driver in them. The price is good as well. I compared them side-by side with some smaller Pyle indoor/outdoor speakers, some smaller JBL bookshelf speakers, and some slightly larger Wharfeldale bookshelf speakers. The BIC speakers put the smaller Pyle speakers to shame. The BICs don't sound as good as the JBL's or Wharfedales, but they didn't cost as much either. Pairing any of these speakers with a subwoofer is necessary to get full low-end bass, and I found I needed a graphic equalizer to get acceptable sound without a subwoofer. By fine-tuning the graphic equalizer, I was able to get the BICs sounding very good even without a subwoofer. I used an amplifier with a built-in equalizer for the tests, and then I ordered a Behringer FBQ800 equalizer ($65) for use with the Bics. If you are not adding a subwoofer, you should spend the money on an equalizer, or get seriously larger speakers. The BIC tweeter is a bit harsh, and is no silk-dome like the Wharfedale tweeters, but I guess you wouldn't want silk-domes outdoors. I got these for the kitchen and bathroom, where they are likely to get water splashed on them.

Update...

I have had these speakers mounted to my ceiling for the past year using these mounts
Pinpoint Mounts AM20-White Universal Home Theater Speaker Wall Ceiling Mount with Electrical Box Installation Adapter Plate

I used the electrical box adapter plate because I used an electrical box mounted to a brace in the attic for support. I also ran the speaker wire through the attic and down through the supplied hole in the cover plate. They have not moved at all in that time.
