Clannad are a family band made up of three siblings (the Brennans) and their two uncles (the Duggans). They grew up in Gaoth Dobhair, the Gaelteacht area of County Donegal that is also home to Altan. Enya, a sister, is also a former member - she featured on the band's 1982 release, "Fuaim".

"Legend" is the soundtrack to an old British television series called "Robin of Sherwood", and it led to a BAFTA for the group. The show, which ran for three seasons, was based on the legends of Robin Hood and was first broadcast in 1984. (The album was first released that same year). Michael Praed played Robin for the first two seasons, before moving to America to take a role in "Dynasty". (He also appeared on the album's original cover). Jason Connery, son of a well-known 007, took over the role for the third season. A fresh-faced Ray Winstone appeared as Will Scarlet, though it was Judi "Maid Marion" Trott that had me tuning in every week....

"Legend" is less traditional than much of Clannad's previous work - there's a greater use of 'modern' instruments and there are definite moves towards a more 'new age' sound. Although there isn't a great deal of singing on the album, this was the band's first release not to feature any vocals in Irish. Including a remix of "Together We", there are eleven tracks on the album. Most of them are around three minutes long - the exceptions being the remix of "Together We" and "Scarlet Inside" (both just over five minutes long) and "Battles" (which just makes it past the minute mark). Despite being so short, "Battles" is - for me - one of the better songs on the album - although the guitar features, the songs' focus is really on the percussion.Read more ›

I don't own the remastered version (yet) but the original album has been a long-time favorite of mine. The music is very soothing and expresses that mystical mood of the British TV series about Robin Hood, which I watched religiously in the 90s.. A great album and certainly a must-have for any Clannad fan as well as fans of the Robin Hood series. I can't wait to hear the remixed version and I'm sure i will like the bonus tracks...

As a hard core Moody Blues fan, I read an article about Tony Clarke producing this album in the Moody Blues magazine Higher and Higher. Since Tony Clarke did a fantastic job with the Moodies, I thought I'd try this album out and see just what it was like. The article I read indicated that Tony Clark was asked to produce Clannad's Legend album, a task which he under took. He was supposed to incorporate the sounds of the Moody Blues, Alan Parsons, and Pink Floyd rolled into one. Again, Tony Clarke came through. Legend is one brilliant album and if you listen closely, you can hear the Parsons, Moodies, and Floyd influences in this recording. This is one of the best recording I have heard in a very long time. It is relaxing, a bit New Age yet quenches the thirst of the soul for some brilliant entertainment. If your an Alan Parsons, Pink Floyd and/or Moody Blues fan, you're going to love this CD. Incorporating the sounds of three supergroups, I would imagine, would be a very difficult task. Tony Clarke in all his brilliance managed to do that and yet kept the Irish roots of Clannad rolled into one. This is a definate must for anyone!

If you liked the BBC series, Robin of Sherwood starring Michael Praed, then you will LOVE this soundtrack with the original music by Clannad. The lyrics are in English, not their usual celtic. The songs were written and recorded specifically for this series and they are beautiful! Clannad is the siblings of the singer, Enya. This seller shipped promptly and well packaged, too.

This is the 2003 Remaster cd of Clannad's infamous Legend 1984 album.Hauntingly beautiful music by Irish celtic band Clannad. This is the definitive album that made Clannad famous.I still have the original Legend album on tape from 1984!. This Legend cd has some of Clannad's best music. A must for any fan of the great BBC Robin Hood tv series 0f 1984. This Legend cd is a real treasure. As You will not find it in any mainstream music stores.I know, I searched for a long time with no success. It is a remastered import cd. The sound quality is very good. Much better than the original 1984 Tape cassette. Reasonably priced and prompt delievery.

I have always wanted to get the theme music from the Robin Hood series shown some years ago on PBS and finally purchased it here. Clanned weaves a contemporary mix of Celtic, Irish, folk music into a wonderfully original sound of memorable melodies in the tunes in this album.
