$1 for 1lb is a good deal. Walmart charges more than $1 for their standard weight plates.

These are iron with a matte black finish painted on.

It's for olympic weight bars. Olympic weight bars have bearings on the ends that allow the weights to rotate with momentum so you are less jerked by that momentum.

On ebay I found plates for $1 per llb also but you need to buy $150-$300 kits. I like being able to accumulate plates slowly for what I need, and I don't need 150lbs since an olympic bar alone is 40lbs.

The cheapest would be to find these at a yard sale or a fitness business going out-of-business. But I didn't have any luck finding either of those things. Olympic plates are much rarer I've found.

Hope that helps.

Given this is a Cap plate, so you shouldn't be expecting a Troy or Ivanko fit and finish, you're buying a cheap plate so expect some roughness. That being said the scrapes and gouges were not too major, the paint is on there, they fit on the bar no added sanding of the hole was needed. There was some rust on one around the edges where paint had been scraped off who knows how long ago. Though what's most important is function and I'm happy to say that weight wise the discrepancies were within 1 pound, and I swear one was almost dead on 45, granted I may have had the luck of the draw but it is what I received. I would suggest the black over the gray, after now owning both Cap versions, first because the gray paint always seems like it was applied worse and two the black is an easier color match and tough up for rust, use Rustoleum rust reformer which will allow you to paint over the rust and also leaves a similar flat black to match the rest of the plate.

I have found plates I get from Amazon to be variable in weight. This one was 1.25 pounds over its stated 45 pound weight. Fortunately I had another plate that was overweight by the same amount. I use them both to counterbalance the fact that my cheap Olympic bar is (also from Amazon) is 3 pounds under weight.

I have ten 45 pound plates, eight of which I bought from Amazon. Five of them are pretty close to 45 pounds. Three are substantially less than 45 pounds. The lowest weigh one is 42.5 pounds!

In the grand scheme of things, being off a little on the weight you lift matters not at all. However, lifting with an unbalanced bar seems like a very bad idea. If I didn't have my plates labelled, it would be luck of the draw and some days I could be putting 46.25 pounds on one end of the bar and 42.5 pounds on the other end. That is a 4.25 pound difference.

forty five pounds is forty five pounds no matter what type of weight it is. The one down side about this weight was that the edges did have a few sharp spots. They were delivered quickly, and the UPS driver walking them to the door struggled a little bit with the box of 2.

Great weight. The accuracy of the weight is pretty close. the thing that took off a star is that there was becasue it seems they didn't file down the hole in the middle so there are a couple pieces of metal that stick out and scratch up my bar but they will wear away with time. I bought these for function. not to be pretty but it was a little annoying

Weights are in perfect condition and weigh exactly what they should. They fit my 2" Olympic barbell. I definitely prefer the black and silver paint job over the plain gray plates I've had in the past.
