I'm an (adult) organic farmer, so I try to trap bugs...but green June beetles are pretty bad in my area and don't fall for traps. I got this net so I could capture them while they fly around during the day--yes, there are that many. This net had a long enough handle that I could capture beetles flying by near my feet or over my head, so it has a nice length of handle. It withstood my intense use and capture of maybe 200 beetles without tear or snag. I didn't have time to be careful, so it probably got kid-worthy rough use yet it is still going strong. The long net bag allowed me to capture a beetle and easily keep it inside the net until I took it to the capture jar. So it's a good quality net in my experience.

I like the longer pole, and it's a sturdy net, but one of the metal wires came out of the pole within a few weeks of fairly frequent use by my five year olds. The single phillips screw in the middle goes through the plastic piece and somehow is supposed to secure the wires in place. But there's no real resistance beyond the frisction to the screw head to actually pulling the wires out. So if you drop the net over something rigid and pull real hard, there's not much stopping you from pulling the wire out. I was able to back out the screw, reset the wire, and re-tighten it, but it is apt to come out again.

That's the flaw in it, but after having tried a few other "kids" butterfly nets, this is actually one of the sturdier ones I've tried overall, with a good, deep net.

I purchased this for my seven year old grandson. He loves exploring with it. It's long enough to give him a great reach when he's hunting bugs, frogs, lizards...but short enough for his little hands to manage. Also looks and feels like the "real deal", not a just a little kids toy.

the handle could be a little longer for my taste ... more important: dog puppy stole it and took of with it, removed it carefully out of his mouth with sharp babyteeth ... expected the worst ... NO HOLES!

This net is longer than most little kid nets and yet it's very light. My four year old has no trouble swinging this around trying to catch any bug she sees. This net has been used extensively by multiple kids all summer and it's held up great. I'm going to buy at least 2 more next spring for my other kids because the ones they have are so heavy.

My son loves this butterfly net better than many others because it has a long handle, a big hoop, and a long net. It has been easier for him to capture his elusive butterfly friends and increase his collection!

I bought this net from Amazon to catch cabbage worm moths before they could lay all their eggs on my vegetables. I think the small diameter of the net's ring worked against me as I did not catch very many. However, I was infested with grasshoppers and it worked great for catching them on the ground due to the net's long wood handle and the stiffness of the handle and metal ring. I ended up wearing out the net's fabric along the tip of the metal ring though. I'll consider buying two of these this next season though I will look to see if another model is offered of similar construction but larger diameter.
