The red & white daredevil spoon was the first artificial lure that I ever had. It seems to work on just about everything, which is bewildering since it doesn't seem to look like anything in the natural world.

When I was five or six, I caught perch and sunfish off the dock with this spoon. Later, I caught all kinds of bass and pickerel with it, and very occasionally trout. Just a couple of days ago, I got an 18 inch bullhead with one in a little Sevylor Tahiti Fishing/Hunting Inflatable Kayak. Surprised the hell out of me. I'd been topwater fishing for bass all morning, and just put the spoon on to get a long cast to nowhere so I could unsnarl the line on my reel.

When all else fails, hook up a daredevil and you'll probably drag something out of the water.

My tackle box has several of these lures, different weights, different patterns. The common thread is that they all catch fish! I love the red and white daredevil the best, as it has probably produced more northern pike than any other single lure in my tackle box. I tie on a steel leader and clip it to the lure, and then cast away! Northerns simply cannot resist the wobbling flash of this lure. The daredevil can be had in extremely small sizes, including one about as big as my thumbnail that is dynamite for crappies and large panfish (and perch).

If I only had one lure in my tackle box, it would be this one or a Rappala minnow Rapala Original Floating Lure: Firetiger, 11cm, F-11 FT

I had to get a couple of these, because my (too infrequent) trips to the Finger Lakes blasted the finish right off my old ones. The pike and pickerel torpedo these things with a mindless fury that is heartwarming. Rowing to the outside of the weed beds, I cast parallel to the edge, and brace for the inevitable, Wham!

This lure has been catching game fish of all kinds for decades, so its pedigree is sterling. I haven't tried the red diamonds on yellow pattern, but have read of extremely good results with this, as well. It casts like an absolute bullet, so that, with braided line, you may have Ray Guy/Rick Roby hang time.

I've used these dardevle spoons in the past, primarily for Pike. I wanted to try this lure out as I hadn't used it for a while and will be going on a fishing trip soon. I used this in the Fox River, IL, and was a little concerned I would lose it to weeds but had no issues here. I had my first strike in about 15 min of using it and was not prepared - the fish broke water and I lost it. I hooked two more and they were ~2-3 lbs small mouth bass. They are a fun fish to catch. I ended up snagging a log on a bad cast and lost the lure, so I am back to get more. I get a kick out of how this lure moves, a bit like a knuckle ball in baseball. Not a new lure on the block but tried and true.

This Dardevle spoon is good to use when you want to attract game fish such as trout and bass. I've used this thing on and off over the years and it's quite reliable. It's 1/4 oz.

The lure works fine with the chrome side shining in the water, however the quality of the painting of the lure is "very poor". If the lure happens to be left in the sun too long, the paint rubs off. The painting is of a very low quality.

The item I ordered is as stated and not an imitation. On the back of the package the suggested retail is $3 from the manufacturer. This size is good for smaller fish such as trout.
