As Chief Engineer on large private yachts for 20 years, I have used 5200 fast and normal cure for through hull fittings below the water line and as a bedding compound for mounting strut posts on smaller boats. The fast cure is also good to have on hand for emergency repairs. I have fondly called it "sticky two hundred" because it gets everywhere. A finger dipped in soapy water can be used quite effectively to run along a joint seam for a cleaner finished appearance. I AM NOT affiliated with 3M in any way. They deserve great reviews as their products are outstanding and have never let me down.

Who wants a leak in a joint or a hole (transducers, AC intakes, etc) in the boat. Many adhesives out there but I couldn't find one that gave me the confidence this 3M product does. It is semi permanent but has the same bonding strength as the permeant one. I now make sure I have a good supply of these with me all the time. The fast cure with no loss of strength is a bonus.

It would have been nice if the product description specified that once the tube is opened, any unused portion of the product begins to cure and is useless within 48 hours! I'm glad I bought the small tube.

this is great for gluing and sealing .. I needed a wood panel attached to iron bars and this was perfect.. I painted and attached the board to the iron bars using this sealant and it is staying great... If I have anything else I need to attach and seal good, will use this again

This stuff may be the best thing going for fast curing sealant. However, the tube and the screw on needle head are garbage. I purchased 3 separate tubes and ALL of them failed to hold together. As I was squeezing the tube, the head would separate from the screw down metal front of the tube. Incredibly frustrating when you're lying down to get the right angle under a grab rail on deck, and the sealant comes oozing out the sides. With the first one I thought maybe I screwed it down too tight and stripped the screw top. But being extra careful with second and third, the same thing happened. Do yourself a favor and get this stuff in a different package.

3M makes the best marine sealant. I have used 5200, 4200, and 4000 UV depending on the application.

I buy it for the boat, but find uses for it around the house as well.

My biggest problem is that I only use a little at a time and a few months later the top is hard and you can't get out any material.

The secret is to cut a hole in the bottom of the tube where the sealant is still fresh. This method usually gets me three sessions from a tube.

There is a reason 3M dominates the marine sealant market. This product has half the holding force of 5200, is easy to work with, and clean up and it WORKS! Nothing flashy, just right and water tight. I don't use anything else on my boat. 3M or nothing! Just wish it was a little more available. 5200 I can find. For 4200 I have to drive 70 miles or mail order.

3M 4200 is my go-to adhesive for most boating applications. It applies easily, dries quickly, and is removable. The removable aspect is important in applications where you will need to change things out, even a year or more later like wiring or thru-hull applications above the waterline. I like the smaller size tube as it is easy to work with and I can use a higher percentage of the product with less waste. This is to say, it is not easy to store for long after you open the tube,
