The first one arrived but only heated intermittently as if something was loose inside. However I was able complete the job and put the iron away. Later on a second project, the iron would not heat at all. Upon contact with Amazon, a new item was sent within 2 days and a label to return the defective one. The new iron works well though there are some minor flaws - namely the control knob runs continuously from cold to hot without any detents to know exactly what is selected. The cast iron construction is somewhat crude and for the price it would have been nice if it came with a plate or stand to rest the iron while hot.

The hand-iron works just fine, however, I gave this only four stars, since the first one I received did not work. I contacted the seller, who immediately sent me a new one and forwarded a pre-paid label to send the bad one back. The transaction was very smooth and fast. I'd give the seller 6-stars for such a smooth transaction.

for years i have used an old iron and finally decided to buy a nice edge banding iron. I thought for $100 it would be good. I was completely wrong. It is extremely underpowered to heat up the cast iron face but at the same time it turns all the metal up to the handle to about 200degrees! My employee burned himself bad today and I am done with it. It takes about 5 minutes to do a single 8' pass now with this iron!

Works as advertised. Be careful of the barrel between the handle and heated element.! Even though marked with a warning sticker the tendency is to use the barrel to guide the heated head.

This iron is weird. The cardboard box says "Grizzly G7914". The sticker on the tool says "TNT wood, made in USA". The manual enclosed with the iron labels it as "Virutex HI-165". Apparently, the same iron is sold under different names. Unfortunately, Grizzly turns out to be the best known and also the most expensive (the same iron sold as Virutex Hi-165 can be found for $55). The most negative side of this is, if the iron breaks, who do you contact for a warranty repair or post-warranty service? And is there any warranty at all? The manual is from Virutex, is this the parent company of Grizzly? It does not say anything about warranty at all. Go figure who and where makes it and who supports it...

The label attached to the iron says "made in USA". Maybe it is true, but then it must have been designed in China and must have been built by inmates because it looks and feels much like a tool from Harbor Freight. It comes with a metal base to rest the hot iron on, but I am still puzzled as to what is the correct way of using it, and why it could not be made in a more appropriate shape, something shaped like the iron itself, to provide a stable support for the iron. The black knob on top of the iron is the temperature controller. The temperature can be adjusted from 190 F to 420 F. The position of the knob is referred to in the manual as "6 o'clock", "1 o'clock", "5 o'clock", but since there is no directional arrow on the knob, so you cannot see what your setting is, and the only way to determine in which position the dial is is to rotate it all the way counterclockwise (which then will be called "6 o'clock"), then imagine the clock and rotate it by the required angle.

This is a great hand iron, I use it in seat repair in vehicles. It heats up quickly, I like the plate which comes with it to set the iron on while heating. I am very satisfied with it.
