I used this cord to replace the cord that snapped inside of a very long tent pole. I own a Coleman Vela Tent that is in very good shape, so getting a whole new tent would have been such a waste of money.

One of the two main tent poles had the cord snap, and I needed a long enough cord to replace a tent pole that was about 22 feet in length. I first looked on the Coleman website for an exact replacement kit for this particular tent, only to find that they discontinued the kits. But, they still showed the descriptions of the kits, which informed me how much shock cord I needed: 16 feet. This kit is 18 feet, so it worked very well for my application. Other kits, like the ones you can buy in stores only are, at the most, 10 feet.

I started by tying off one end with a few loop knots and stringed it through the first pole. I was able to string the 18 feet of cord through the poles until about the last three sections, where I pulled on it to get as much length as I needed to finish the last three sections, then I had to put my foot on the cord to keep it snapping back into the poles. Once done with the last three sections, I tied it off at the end, making a few loop knots on top of each other. I was able to string it without the need for one of the wires included in other kits. Of course, you should use washers at each end as I did, and thankfully I had some leftover from a different tent pole repair kit I bought for a different tent. If you still have your original washers, you can use those.

The shock cord looks almost identical to the original, in respects to size and strength. Overall, it got the job done for me and saved me from having to purchase a new tent.

I used this to replace the worn out shock cords in my REI Half Dome Plus tent poles. There are two poles and they are 12' 6" (150") each. This was the perfect amount of shock cord to get the job done.

As others have written, this cord is definitely not 3/16". I measure 3/32". I knew this prior to purchase thanks to all the reviews here. Having said that, if you're looking to use this to replace the cord in tent poles, then it is more than adequate for that purpose.

Looks from the reviews like for a while it was labeled as 3/16 not 3/32. By the time I bought it, it was properly labeled, which was good because I was looking for the thinnest possible shock-cord with a polyester cover. This is the smallest I could find and it's quality is pretty darned good. Would love if I could find something even smaller, but as of now, this is the winner.

Good cord, it is thin, but strong. Works well for almost any kind of pole. But remember to get more than you need b/c you will have to wrap it around the ends and tie it off to get a good few knots. So, get yourself a bit more at this price...

Would classify this as a 2mm shock cord which is just right for my Coleman replacement. Though 18 feet does not sound like much, I found that each pack replaced shock cords for two poles of my four-pole three-man tent. Threading was much easier than expected and did not need any tools at all. Amazing to have my almost 30 year old tent poles up and running again. I also made sure to tape any minor cracks in the poles and re-order those poles to the ends, since most of the flex happens in the middle of the pole.

In all, a rejuvenation for my old poles, and a great investment.

I had an extra foot left over with mine. I bought a repair kit ,also made by this company . Turns out that I didn't need the repair kit as I was able to string the cord through the poles by hand . The cord is slightly thicker than what was originally in the pole but it fit .

There is some dispute by other reviews over the thickness of this product. All I know is that this cord is the same thickness as the cord in my tent pole that it is intended yo replace. It is not too thin to do the job and it does the job well. This is not some flimsy cord that has no elasticity. This cord is perfect for this job and will hold up well. I have multiple tents: a Cabelas, a Kelty, and a Coleman. This cord is just as thick and strong as the cord in the poles of any of those tents. I have used this cord to repair one tent pole and now keep a package of it on hand on campouts as backup just in case. The other thing I like is that it is 18 feet long. Other replacement cords sold (think big box store) are only 5 feet long which is practically useless in most tent pole applications. This Coghlans product does the job.

Yes the width is not as advertised, thanks previous reviewers for the heads up.

I have a 5-7 year old Coleman Bayside "8" person tent. One of my second to the largest diameter pole (not the 2 main poles that cross the tent, but the next size down). I used this shock cord to replace the cord that broke inside my 18' tent pole. I thought with the stretch factor I might be able to repair two poles, but it doesn't stretch that much. Left over cord is 8' - but I needed all 18' to initially thread through all the poles, then I could pull it tight and cut off excess.

Overall very satisfied, tent pole is like new again!
