I have used clear Museum Wax and the neutral putty for years. This was the first time I ordered the gel. What a mistake!! I am educated enough to read and follow the simple directions and not one glass would adhere to any glass shelf. Talk about a dissapointment and this useless product is much more expensive. I would not recommend this product to any one.

This stuff doesn't hold. Use museum wax instead. I tried this stuff to secure my antique crystal glass items onto the smooth glass shelves of display cases. It just oozes out from under the item and makes a mess all over the shelf. If the item is near the edge of the shelf, it oozes out and drips down the cabinet. If your cabinet gets bumped the likelihood of the display glass falling is almost as great as if there were nothing to secure the glass at all. Don't waste your money. For opaque items, use museum putty.

LOVE♥♥♥♥ My sneaky little feline can't knock over my breakables any more. First time I heard of this was when it was sold on QVC (they called it museums gel) was at least 17yrs, ago and fell in love with it. Next I tried the wax...too messy so I am back to my tried and true clear gel. I have my sister and friends talking about this stuff like they are doing a commercial!! Hey, I know how great it is. It is also reusable and the jar will last for years and years because you only need a small amount. Also I am pleased to have found it at a fraction of what I paid in 1997!!! Don't ever stop selling it.

Crystal clear, easy to use gel that holds better than advertised. A real heirloom saver. One jar goes a long way. I would recommend this to anyone who has crystal and cats or little kids or big parties or earthquakes, or whatever else, who wants to keep their fine glass and crystal wares safe.

Amazon's ad states that this stuff "works on most surfaces and glass" and that it "won't damage furniture." However, here's what the manufacturer's instructions that come in the box with the product state:

"We recommend the product for use on impenetrable objects and surfaces only. When we say 'impenetrable,' we mean a surface or object that is completely impervious to moisture or water. It must be completely waterproof. Objects considered completely waterproof are glass, crystal, porcelain, Formica, tile, polished granite, certain varnished wood, metal and many others. If you use the product on any other surface, you run the risk of staining which may not be removable."

On the next page there's this warning: "Be sure to read all written material and use this product at your own risk."

Given the possible negative consequences of using this goop to hold down glass objects on my tables, shelves, and the fireplace mantel, it's going back to Amazon or into the trash.

You have to be very careful and follow the instructions pretty much to the letter. If you use too much the product starts to spread and will not hold the item in place.
It is just ok.
Recommend the earthquake putty instead of this stuff.

If you have glass or china AND pets or kids, get this stuff. Staff at the MFA Boston told me about it when they heard I was getting a Bengal. My delicate glass weather instruments and hourglasses are all still intact! you can't see the gel when it's in place (the refractive index must be close to that of glass) so you can have fun watching people who should know better TRY to pick up a delicate glass ornament. In fact, I'd recommend it for the entertainment value, alone! Doesn't stain or mark furniture (so far... and I've used the stuff for years) but won't come off unpolished stone or other unfinished surfaces. (use the museum putty for those surfaces)

I ordered the wrong product. I should have ordered the putty version instead of the wax version but even so it didn't perform on jobs it was supposed to. It didn't stick down glass items to either wood or metal. Maybe it only sticks glass to glass. Also, it became liquid at relatively low temperatures and dripped onto the floor and down the wall. By low temps I'm talking low 70-degrees. But as I said I should have ordered the putty, but I wanted a clear product rather than black or any of the other colors putty comes in. May be user error...
