If you know what to expect this can be that dream scope you've always wanted. Lightweight, sharp, bright views, and decent high power. All of that is right here.

I like to think of this scope as one half of a binocular telescope.

I am so glad this is offered as an OTA which allows me to build it exactly as I wanted. I mounted it with 114mm Orion rings and 8" dovetail to a Skywatcher AZ4 steel tube tripod. Almost overkill for this scope but the two just seem made for each other. Very solid and just the right height for sitting in your comfy chair and scanning the skies. I want to list exactly how I configured the scope. For me this is about as perfect as it gets unless somehow this became an APO scope. I tried to stick to Orion products when I could.

1) Orion dual speed Crawford focus. The Orion upgrade instals in a minute and at all powers just make finding focus easier and the viewing experience more enjoyable. Very smooth all metal focus.

2) Orion dielectric 2" star Diagonal. With only 120mm you don't want to lose any brightness with a standard mirror diagonal and you absolutely must get the 2" because it allows you to enjoy the wide fields of view this scope can give you.

3) Orion 2x barlow. This is all you will need as anything over 200x and this scope will have reached it's seeing limit anyhow.

4) Orion V-block anti fringe filter. Instal this on your barlow because that is the only time you will need it. Over 100x or so and the image will begin to blur from Chromatic aberration of this F5 acro. This filter does a good job of clearing it up. For example, at 220x without this filter, the Cassini Division in Saturn's rings was blurred away. With the filter I could easily see it. Nuff said me thinks.

I'm new to astrophotography, and I'm looking for a fast refractor to help me see deep sky objects (Galaxies and Nebula's) with my CCD camera, and have the flexibility to be used as a visual scope.
This scope fits that requirement - at f5 is provides fast exposure. As for the chromatic issues, I have trouble seeing it with galaxies and nebulas. If I do get chromatic issues, I can post process the photo to remove it. Note: when I look at Jupiter, or other bright objects, the chromatic issue is very obvious.

As for visual - I used a 2x barlow and now I have a f10 refractor. Or with a 3x barlow, now I have a f15 refractor.

Scope is well made and solid, unfortunately you need to purchase the rings, red dot, and dovetail plate separately...

I use this scope on my Celestron SGT mount and it works great!! I've taken 27+ CCD photo's with this telescope, and now I'm looking to purchase a Orion guider to break the 60 second unguided barrier.

Great entry level scope for CCD/DLSR photography - as for Chromatic issues - not a deal breaker for me, again I can process them out.... Hope this helps....

Great scope, strange sticky grease used on focuser which is exposed. Requires a diagonal, as there is not enough focus travel to use an eyepieces straight through. For those who do not own an additional diagonal, eyepiece, telescope rings, etc., strongly consider buying the whole package as you get all these items, plus a tripod and eyepieces for an additional $180ish.

Although the scope does suffer from chromatic aberration, as expected, it displays wide field views exceptionally well. Used in conjunction with my C11, I found the views of Jupiter to be quite similar under the same magnification, albeit with a bit of purple fringing. In short, compared to my C11, I thought this to be a great first (or last) scope.

I am a new to astronomy (about six months at the time of this writing), accordingly, this review is by an Amateur for Amateurs... for those who are more seasoned, I invite you to comment and correct me.

The review is adjusted and commensurate with the price... i.e., based on reasonable expectations congruent with the price; apples to apples; can't compare a 50k automobile with one priced at 20k.

I was looking for something "light"/"portable" with a relative short focal length to gain a wide field-of-view, to allow me to explore the sky in larger chunks.

For the price, I got much bang for the bucks, so to speak. Do note that you need to use the diagonal, as you may not have enough back travel on to achieve focus without it; just a comment, neither here nor there; by the way I did not need the diagonal when using my DSLR in prime focus with the 2'' adapter.

This is an achromatic refractor, which means that there will be some chromatic aberration, which will manifest itself as blue/purple halos around the stars... this was more noticeable in the pictures I produced and not so much of an issue when just doing visual observations.

But if you want to do some Astrophotography training of the 'brighter" objects in the sky, this scope will help you get there... (Note, preferably, you'll need a motorized equatorial mount for longer exposures). I've included a shot of the Orion Nebula (M42) I did last week, it's a single 30sec exposure on an Atlas EQ-G (no autoguiding) and very minor post-processing in Lightroom.

I do like the fact that it has a 2'' focuser with a 1.25" adapter, this gives you flexibility with both eye-pieces sizes, and prime focus photography.
