As fast as you can open a jar of Vicks VapoRub, you can begin to experience the feeling of freer breathing. Soothing vapors inhaled into the nose and throat relieve nasal congestion and coughs due to colds. VapoRub is applied externally to the chest or throat, so it doesn't interact with other medication the way pills can, and is not likely to cause drowsiness or jittery side effects. VapoRub may be an alternative to oral decongestants for people who suffer from hypertension, and may be suited for diabetics who are looking for a sugar-free cough suppressant. Vicks VapoRub may also be rubbed on sore muscles to relieve aches and pains.

Ingredients
Active Ingredients: Camphor (4.8%), Eucalyptus Oil (1.2%), Menthol (2.6%).
Inactive Ingredients: Cedarleaf Oil, Nutmeg Oil, Special Petrolatum, Thymol, Turpentine Oil.

Directions
Adults and children 2 years and older: Rub a thick layer on chest and throat or rub on sore aching muscles. If desired, cover with a soft, dry cloth but keep clothing loose so vapors can reach nose and mouth. Repeat up to 3 times daily or as directed by a doctor.
Under 2 years old: Ask a doctor.

Warnings
For external use only; avoid contact with eyes. Do not use by mouth, in nostrils, with tight bandages, on wounds or damaged skin. Ask a doctor before use if you have excessive phlegm (mucus), asthma, emphysema, cough associated with smoking, or persistent or chronic cough. When using this product do not heat, microwave, use near an open flame, add to hot water or any container where heating water. May cause splattering and result in burns. Stop use and ask a doctor if muscle aches and pains persist for more than 7 days or come back; if cough lasts more than 7 days, comes back, or occurs with fever, rash, or headache that lasts. These could be signs of a serious condition. If pregnant or breast-feeding, ask a health professional before use. Keep out of reach of children. In case of accidental ingestion, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away. Failure to follow these warnings could result in serious consequences. Store at room temperature.

Vicks is not a toxic substance for heaven's sake. The primary ingredients are (in this order) Camphor, Eucalyptus and Menthol. other ingredients include helpful fragrant oils such as Nutmeg. The oils are emuslified in a petroleum jelly base. Yes, it contains very minor amounts of Turpentine, but not near enough to cause any cocnern. If the reviewer below ever cleaned his paintbrush in art class as a child, he was exposed to far higher levels of turpentine than he would be in a lifetime of using Vicks regularly.

Vicks is not intended to be ingested. It is a TOPICAL analgesic only. When used properly, it is one of the safest decongestants ever marketed. If is safer than Sudefed or any other oral decongestant. The unique formula opens swollen nasal passages, soothes the irritated muccuous membranes, inhibits coughing and restores free breathing. This is usually instantanious when rubbed unto the chest liberally or placed on the upper lip beneath the nose in a small amount.

Vicks is also used by many to relieve Migraine headaches. Some sufferers rub it on their temples the way you are supposed to do with Tiger balm. In fact, Tiger Balm is very similar to Vicks in formula and ingredients. Rubbing Vicks on sore muscles or arthritic joints can also provide some relief. It promotes circulation to the areas it is applied to. Be careful to follow the isntructions and never to apply Vicks inside your nose, mouth or other sensitive areas. Never ingest Vicks.

I prefer the Rub to the cream since there is a minor difference in scent and strength of the vapors. Vicks is great for Kids, teens and grownups too. Every household should have a jar in their medicine chest. It is a safe and reliable prodcut - a good alterantive to pills or nasal sprays that carry with them the risk of unpleasant side-effects. Try Vicks before you resort to any of those remedies. You might be pleasantly surprised by the results.
