I have just begun taking iron bisglycinate and can affirm that it truly is non-constipating as everyone says, and as the maker claims. Yea! For anyone with constipation issues to begin with, you understand how important this is.

As with ANY supplement, please do your research and monitor it closely with your health care professional. One reviewer claimed that THIS form of iron is adaptogenic, meaning that the body uses only what it needs and eliminates the rest (through the urine, in this case). This is NOT TRUE! I researched this extensively and found NO medical (or other) website that supported that statement. The maker does NOT claim this. ALL medical info. says that EXCESS IRON IS STORED IN THE BODY - in the liver especially, (and in other organs), and therefore it is very important NOT TO OVERDOSE and cause injury to vital organs. That can be very serious and potentially life-threatening!

Do YOUR OWN research. Also, there are foods that inhibit iron absorption (eggs, cheese, tea etc.) so be mindful of WHEN is the best time to take your iron. Vitamin C helps absorption of iron. MY multivitamin does not have iron, and so I am taking my iron supplement with my noon meal along with my multivitamin. See what works best for you.

I hope this review helps you be conscientious with whatever supplement you use, and not to take anyone else's word for claims (unless they are a health professional). If you find something that works well for you, share it with others, including your Doctor!

I had been taking a liquid herbal iron (Floradix) for 90 days, and my total iron was 33 and my ferritin was 24. I switched to Solgar iron bisglycinate and my total iron is now 89 and my Ferritin is 38. Iron saturation went from 11 on Floradix to 25 on Solgar iron. I am a believer. It seems like it wouldn't do anything because it is such a small milligram dose, but it works beautifully, small capsule, 1x per day. I am amazed and will never use anything else.

I've suffered from anemia for years, and have monthly blood tests to check my iron levels. Someone mentioned to me that chelated iron wouldn't cause the side effects of constipation caused by other types of iron, so I bought this to try it. I appreciated the fact that this iron comes in a brown glass bottle, which seems to me to be better protection for the supplements than a plastic bottle. I also noted happily that these supplements are made in USA. However, my blood tests were not as good after a month using this supplement as while using Slow FE. When I quizzed my doctor as to why, he explained that this iron supplement, as well as other chelated iron supplements, are made using plant based iron, which is not as readily absorbed by the body. It would probably be fine for someone whose condition is not as severe as mine, but it just didn't work for me. Bummer. I'll pass the remainder of this bottle along to my daughter.

I had mild restless leg syndrome and my ferritin level was 36 (low-normal). Most RLS experts recommend it should be over 50- lower than 50 can be associated with RLS in some people. Ferritin is the storage form of iron. So I did some research and bought Solgar Gentle Iron- Iron Bisglycinate, 25mg iron per pill. I took 3 a day- one with each meal, making sure I had some vitamin C each time (added orange juice if there wasn't significant vit c in what I was eating). My RLS started to improve almost immediately- within a few days. My plan was to re-check my ferritin in about 6 weeks, and my doctor had put the order in the system for me. Slightly over 2 weeks after starting it, I had blood drawn for something else and the lab tech accidentally sent in the follow up ferritin test too- even though I wasn't supposed to check it for another 4 weeks. To my surprise, my ferritin came back 63! So this worked fast! In only a little over 2 weeks, it went from 36 to 63. I had no side effects at all- no stomach upset or constipation or any of that. I still have slight twinges of RLS a couple times a week, but it is almost gone. It won't work for everyone, but it has for me. Another suggestion- magnesium helps RLS too. Pretty large doses (400+), not oxide form (poorly absorbed). A cup of Natural Calm "tea" before bed works well.

I am a little reluctant to write this review because I am a doctor and I know that just taking iron if you are not deficient can be dangerous. But as a RLS sufferer, I know how awful it is so I hope this helps others. You should get your ferritin tested and only take iron if that is below about 50; and it shouldn't go over around 100.

I don't get side effects from this iron- no constipation or upset stomach. I can even take this iron without food. I had uncomfortable side effects from ferrous sulfate (a different type of iron).

My ferritin got too low. After about a month of supplements, I feel much better. And I think my energy level will continue to improve.

Seems like a very good price on Amazon.

Update: My ferritin level rose from 26 to 94 in 5 months while taking about 50 to 100 mg of Solgar iron every day. I am very happy about it!
