The ingredients have changed in this product while still being advertised as preservative free. In fact, the bottle I purchased recently now has both sodium benzoate as well as potassium sorbate listed, in addition to apple juice concentrate, grape juice concentrate, citric acid, "natural flavors"(?). I am quite sure that the first few bottles which I purchased did not have these. After repeated attempts to contact Natural Sources, I was finally successful in speaking to a rep. This is what he told me: all the ingredients that are now listed on the bottle's label have ALWAYS been in the product (but just not listed!). In the past, he said, manufacturers were only required to list the major ingredient. Now, the FDA requires that EVERYTHING be listed (duh..... as it SHOULD be...). He said that potassium sorbate is a naturally occurring ingredient in the fruit and that sodium benzoate is added to keep the product fresh. The apple and grape juice are added to "stretch" the product as elderberry is quite expensive and because elderberry does not have a particularly pleasing taste. Also, the apples and grapes are NOT organic (Personally, I eat only organic grapes as they are usually grown with lots of pesticides!) He said that it is up to Amazon, Vitamin Shoppe, and other retailers to list the ingredients on the website (he said they all have this info) but it is their choice to do so (or not). Clearly, we need to put pressure on retailers to publish this information. Guess we now have to check every supplement we ingest as there may be things in there that we never knew were in there.

My now 17 yr. old daugther was a VERY sick infant, toddler, child for the first 6 yrs of her life. Having seen a multitude of doctors & specialists, being poked & prodded with no answers and only this dismal diagnosis "failure to thrive" was offered. She had chronic diaherrea, vomitting, colds,& 5-6 pnuemonia's per year. She was even tested for Cystic Fibrosis 5 times inconclusively...anyway, a friend of ours who lived up the street came over one day bringing with her a bottle of something called Elderberry and simply said "try it!" Reluctantly, we did, not expecting anything...afterall, 6 years of doctor visits hadn't helped. About2-3 months later, after giving my daughter this Natural Sources Elderberry, we noticed that she had not had a single cold, flu, pnuemonia....hadn't been sick in any way. More time passed, still she was amazingly healthy and began to finally start growing (at 2 yrs. she weighed 9 lbs. and wore a small infants clothing). She is now 17 and I am NEVER without this product in my home, have told literally thousands of people of this wonderful natural immune system booster, and swear that if it had not been for our friend giving us a bottle she may not have been here (that's what the doctors were telling us). I cannot say enough good about this and will be a loyal customer forever. We all take it at the first sign of a scratchy throat and have been cold & viral flu free for years. If we are around sick people we take it as a preventative and avoid getting sick. For us, we just keep a bottle in the fridge, and one or two in the cupboard, and take it by the teaspoon full or make a small glass of juice 2-3 times in that first day or two that you start feeling "icky" and ward off the cold or flu. Do not be fooled by this being Elderberry concentrate because the first two ingredients listed on the bottle are in fact apple and grape juice concentrate. This was not the case years ago when I ordered the same product. Very very disappointing. I will not be purchasing from this company again.

Are you kidding me. I have been buying this stuff faithfully and loving it. I just went to buy more only to learn that we have been defrauded. This is no longer elderberry concentrate but a mix of juices with a little elderberry in it. These scumbags did a good job of the deception too. I did not even notice until I checked the ingredient on the latest bottle and indeed, it is no longer elderberry juice.

What a shameless low class company. Did you really think we would let this slide.

Elderberry concentrate was prescribed to me because I used to catch the flu and colds so frequently. I've looked at other brands and Natural Sources is one of the best -- no added sweeteners, no preservatives. It's not organic, but is still a natural product. Really boosts the immune system and stops cold symptoms if you start taking it early enough. If you forget and start a bit late it does help speed recovery. You can take it straight or try what I do: when I start feeling a cold, the flu, or a sore throat coming on, twice a day, I mix 15mL/1 tbsp. of elderberry concentrate with 700mL water (about the size of a sports bottle). Also good with sparkling water. A great health supplement; I haven't had to resort to over-the-counter, toxic cold remedies since I started using this.

From 'Alive' Magazine, by Terry Willard, CIH, Ph.D: "Current research shows a stimulation of antibody protection and a reduction of flu symptoms in three days or less. Dr. Madeleine Mumcuoglu of the Hadassah-Hebrew University in Israel found that the elderberry herb disarmed the neuraminidase enzyme, which flu viruses use to penetrate healthy organism cells. Twenty percent of her flu study subjects reported significant improvement within 24 hours, 70 percent within 48 hours, and 90 percent were completely cured within three days. The subjects consuming Elderberry syrup also had higher levels of antibodies against the virus. In contrast, subjects receiving the placebo required six days to recover. Elderberry has been proven effective against eight strains of influenza. This gives it a stronger batting average than any antiviral vaccine."
