I was looking for a replacement and since the picture is small I could not tell the size of the weave. My original one has a very small weave that doesn't allow rice to fall through or get caught in the weave like these do. It was a rough weave and had a funny smell. I sent it back and am still using my old one that I sewed together till I can find exactly what I need.

Believe it or not we could not find the Thai rice OR the cooker on Maui. Now I am in the desert and no problem. Found the pot in an Asian supermarket--but they did not have the bamboo steamer, go figure.
I bought the aluminum pot in the store, then ordered the steamer from amazon. Came in a few days in a big box. It's a lot bigger than it looks, my daughter's friend thought it was a hat, lol.

Great price, arrived quickly. Have made sticky rice two or 3 times already, was perfect. The basket is huge, have to force it under my stove vent which hangs kind of low... but you can wiggle it a bit and it fits. Just make sure you use a pot lid when you steam your rice. Lining the steamer with cheesecloth is not so easy, the cheesecloth falls down the sloped sides and anyway the rice was stuck to the cheesecloth, what a waste. Honestly was not worth the effort to use cheesecloth, the bamboo steamer is not THAT hard to clean.
First time I soaked the rice overnight, second time all day. Both times came out great. We had it with bbq teriyaki salmon once, then with Thai curry the second time. Reheats good in steamer too.

FYI: seems to take a LONG time to boil the water in that pot, very odd and at a high altitude our water boils fast. Don't put too much water in-- you don't want the rice sitting in water anyway.

Generally I go into the Dallas area to the Asian market when we need something authentic. This time I didn't want to make the drive so I ordered online. We had the pot already and just needed the basket but I saw this product was on sale and offered rice with it so I figured I'd get it as well. Our last basket finally had fallen apart. I'm sure it would have lasted longer had my children not used it for a boat.

I am very satisfied with this product. I was shocked when I received it in 24 hours even though I had chosen the regular 2 day shipping that Prime offers.

I immediately soaked some rice and steamed it. It cooked perfectly. I had read a review that mentioned the basket weave wasn't tight enough and rice fell through so I watched for that. I didn't have a problem at all. My husband is from Laos and is the one who taught me how to cook traditional food. He found nothing wrong with the basket or pot either and was thrilled we could get it online and not have to drive into Dallas.

I think it's great these products are being sold online. Now if I could just find bean noodle, and oyster sauce, and fish sauce online!!

This is probably one of the better built sticky rice steamers I have purchased (I'm only on my third one, though). The spacing on each strand of bamboo are uniform throughout, the stitching on the brim seems very sturdy, and the basket survived a trip from Thailand in nothing but a paper bag taped over with an address label...That aside, I'm really happy I didn't spend my weekend travelling from international supermarket to international supermarket asking for a sticky rice steamer, as it was incredibly easy to get what I needed here.

This basket is great for steaming my sweet rice and other foods. Using this basket keeps moisture out of the rice so when the rice is cooked it does not stick all over your hands when handling the rice. It is also quick and easy to clean unlike the double metal steamers.

I have the bucket type pan that the steamer goes into. But the rice basket needs to replaces every couple of years or so. The grass basket gives the rice a nice grassy flavor of it's own. We like plain rice now a lot more than before.
