Higher Octave presents the latest from Govi ~ "Saffron & Silk", featuring nine melodies with melodic, passionate and satisfying musicianship with beautifully written with intoxicating overtones, just like we like 'em. All cues composed, arranged and performed by Govi (archtop jazz guitar, flamenco guitars, 12-string acoustic & electric guitars, Turkish oud, sitar, charango, Greek bouzouki, keyboards and hand percussion) is there anything else left? ~ with some help from guest musicians Deon Estus (electric bass), Michael Feegrade (fretless bass), Bob Harrison (5-string fretless bass), Karunesh (sound programming) and Don Lax (violin) totally lend a refreshing and delicious blend of ethnic flavor within every cue.
The play list reads like a global who's who, with a few stand outs ~ "CARICOA CAT", "BAILE DEL CORAZON", "HEARTSTRINGS" and "MARRAKESH", a listeners musical journey around the world ~ immensely addictive rhythmic melodies with latin overtones ~ you're completely immersed with every cell in your body ~ wide appeal of world class instruments take a turn around the world.
If you're looking for inspiring music, this one's for you. Great job from Higher Octave on Govi's fourth release for the label ~ highly recommend this for your next pick down the road ~ Higher Octave and Govi have another winner...gotta love it!

Nothing can be as great as this music. This CD will be loved by those who enjoy Armik, Mehdi, Strunz and Farrah or Even Jesse Cook. My hats off to you Govi . I'll always look forward to hearing your mystical fingers on your magical guitar.

Great music all around. But if you plan on uploading this CD to your portable music player, skip the CD buying and head over to an online music store instead. You will not be able to encode this CD into any format compatible with any portable devices, if you care just a tiny bit about sound quality.

The only way you can "rip" this CD to mp3, wma or aac is in analog mode, and that results in a lot of backgrouund hiss noise. Windows Media Player, iTunes, RealPlayer all have problems with the digital playback of this CD. The only thing that kind of works for playback is a stupid, illegible, featureless, orange icons on blue background player that is included on the data track. Too bad...

I think that this CD presents a somewhat different side of Govi.
Somehow the pieces on this CD have a quieter and even more exotic nature about them than Govi's other works.
The first time I played this CD I was not sure about it. I did not dislike it, I would say I had more of a neutral feeling about. After playing it a couple of times, I came to the conclusion that this is really nice music that is very soft and somewhat exotic. I really liked Govi's use of the sitar and the bouzouki. I think that these instruments are probably what gives this CD its' exotic feeling.
I think that piece titled "Carioca Cat" is really excellent and is representative of the best of Govi.
We have all of the CDs that Govi has made and we are happy to add "Saffron and Silk" to our collection.

Govi shows his great versatility on this CD by introducing some Old World string instruments that incorporate a nice twist within the framework of his distinctive familiar sound. I enjoy, to varying degrees, 7 cuts from Saffron & Silk with the hands down winner being Marrakesh. The intoxicating melodies in this song, superb musicianship, incredible detail, and scary good recording quality make this one of my 5 all time Govi favorite tracks. George M -- Phoenix, AZ

listening to this while cruising on the nile river from luxor to aswan; this was a great soundtrack watching the palm trees go by, past the little farms and villages, the lazy felucca drifting by, though not typically mid eastern or african, it was, nonetheless exotic. 4 out of 5 stars only for brevity. (although you don't really want to be baking under the upper egypt sun for very long!)

Andalusian Nights was my introduction to Govi and I thought that album would be hard to beat. Saffron & Silk doesn't disappoint. Govi weaves his magic through various instruments, coaxing an exquisite array of emotions with his music. Masterfully incorporating sounds from around the world, I was left spellbound.

I've in my collection every GOVI albums, from SKY HIGH to YOUR LINGERING TOUCH; from ANDALUSIAN NIGHTS to MOSAICO. Just after 10 days of acquiring SAFFRON & SILK, I must say that this album rates very very highly.
I am in love with my Guitar Master's brand of guitar music - GOVI's the BEST!
His ability to write the most invigourating melodies and rhythms got me eating directly out from his calloused fingertips. I simply adore the way GOVI blends all kinds of stringed-music into one captivating track. Simply amazing. GOVI's heart-warming and spell binding melodies are his trademarked signature. Just listen to his rhythms and melodies on 'Call of the East', 'Carioca Cat', 'Neroli', 'Baile del Corazon', 'Into the Night', 'Heartstrings', 'Saffron & Silk' and I dare you to call me a liar.
I just wish GOVI could make my enjoyment a little longer in the form of a longer-playing CD. '45+ minutes only' is injustice to your guitarra mastery, dear GOVI.
One more thing - I have 'died' many times over, just to get my hands on more "GOVInformation" .. Finally, I was overjoyed to see printed on the CD & CD insert booklet of SAFFRON & SILK, the words, "[...] Instantly, I got on the web, but was most taken aback when the site led me to an industrial product site in Deutschland (I know GOVI is German) Did I visit the wrong website? Can anyone pls enlighten me? (Thanks)
Congratulations, GOVI! Totally awesome album, this. SAFFRON & SILK is 'Smoooooth As Silk' (a track name found in MOSAICO!)
