Product Description

From the Manufacturer

The Iomega REV 35 GB/90 GB USB 2.0 external drive is a revolutionary removable hard disk system that is more efficient and reliable than traditional tape systems, while providing portable, high-performance file storage. Back up and restore up to 8 times faster than tape, access files in seconds with drag-and-drop, and secure your data with password protection and encryption. Includes Iomega Automatic Backup Pro software for "set-it and forget-it" file backups, plus full system backup and fast disaster recovery with Norton Ghost for REV Drive software.

The Iomega REV 35 GB/90 GB USB 2.0 external drive provides compatibility with both desktop and notebook computers. The small and light drive can be easily transported to different environments -- so you can backup your work files and then take it home to backup your personal files. The drive is backwards compatible with USB 1.1, but a USB 2.0 connection is recommended so you can take advantage of the ridiculously high speed and superior performance of the Iomega REV drive. It also has a unique stackable chassis so multiple drives can stack nicely on your desk. The external drive is bootable on systems with BIOSes that support booting from an external USB device.

The Iomega REV drive is designed for superior reliability compared to tape. Compared to traditional tape systems, REV drives and disks are up to eight times faster, more durable, easier to maintain, and provide random access to data. To provide maximum reliability, the unique Iomega REV design keeps the sensitive read/write heads and electronics sealed in the drive where shock and vibration are not an issue. Reliability is further enhanced by the patent-pending air filtration system. Iomega REV disks are rated for over one million rewrites versus thousands for tape.

Random access allows an Iomega REV drive to act like a removable hard drive for saving, transferring, and archiving large amounts of data at hard drive speeds using simple drag-and-drop -- something a tape drive cannot do. Iomega REV drives are ideal to replace your tape! View a Flash Demo of REV Drives and Disks here for more information.

mega REV drives and disks are superior to portable hard drives in ruggedness and expandability. Because the sensitive heads and electronics are not in the REV disk cartridge, Iomega REV disks are much more durable, smaller and more portable, than current portable hard drive technology. And buying additional disks for extra capacity is more affordable than purchasing additional portable hard drives.

Compared to optical drives, Iomega REV technology is much faster and more reliable than DVD and CD solutions. Iomega REV drives transfer data at up to twice the speed of the fastest optical drives. Iomega REV disks are not subject to scratching and other issues that cause data loss with DVDs and CDs. And Iomega REV disks offer virtually unlimited rewriteability, compared to the limited life of a typical DVD or CD.

Product Description

Iomega REV 35GB drives and removable, durable disks are the perfect storage solution for high-capacity files or for archiving client files off-site! EMC Retrospect Express software is included for backup and disaster recovery of all your critical data. Simply add more REV disks to expand storage as your data or business grows and gain the peace of mind that your data is secure and always available.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent hardware, shame about the software., January 13, 2005
By John Jones (Shippensburg, PA) - See all my reviews
This drive is marketed by Iomega as primarily an archival solution, but it is also great as a kind of floppy drive for the 21st Century (a super Zip drive). The hardware is faultless - a massive improvement on the deeply flawed Peerless drive - and the Iomega REV disks seem robust: I send one overseas though the mail once a week, have it returned the following week, and so far without any reliability problems.

However, it is as a backup solution that I purchased my Rev drive and in this context the whole is let down by the supplied backup software. Iomega's Rev-enabled versions of Backup Pro and Ghost just don't make the grade for serious backups. I soon gave up trying to make sense of Backup Pro and getting it to work consistently. Instead, I bought a copy of Dantz Retrospect 6.5 Professional, for about $90. Now, I make perfect daily backups.

For the cost of this drive, why doesn't Iomega bundle a copy (perhaps limited) of Retrospect?

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best backup solutions I've found, October 8, 2004
By Dr. Laurence Hemming (London, England) - See all my reviews
The drive is fast, efficiant, reliable, and once saved my life because I'd backed up a whole hard drive of a laptop on to it - a laptop which then got left by an open window during a sudden downpour. I've tried a whole host of backup solutions over the years, this is the only one that allows you to take an image of an entire hard drive in about 35 minutes (15 GB of data: my last solution took nearly four hours to do this) and store it somewhere safe, for a rainy day.

5.0 out of 5 stars One BIG Zip Disk, May 1, 2004
By A Customer
This is being marketed as a backup solution, and that's fine, it's a great one and, depending upon what you're using, maybe a little expensive. However, don't overlook (and this isn't obvious at all from their marketing) that this is still just like one very fast, and, very, VERY BIG password protected Zip Drive! Iomega has finally delivered what they promised (and NEVER delivered at 2.0 USB!!!) with the Peerless several years ago. This unit is really small -- the disks are smaller than Zip disks -- and if they keep up with their plans of doubling the capacity every 18 months or so, they may really be onto something. Installation was totally unremarkable and exactly as promised. It comes with a version of Norton Ghost made especially for the Rev. Following the included directions step-by-step re: the Ghost backup is very important.
