Product Description

Amazon.com Review

Monitor outdoor temperatures from multiple locations by adding this additional remote sensor to your Taylor digital temperature system. For use with Taylor’s digital thermometer models 1453, 1456, and 1461, the digital sensor transmits precise outside conditions to the base unit so users can plan appropriately for brisk or hot weather.

The weatherproof sensor can stand alone or mount on a wall or post via an enclosed bracket. An LCD display indicates temperatures in 2/3-inch high digits, plus includes a low battery indicator. Users may opt to read the temperatures in Celsius or Fahrenheit degrees. Outdoor temperature measurement capabilities range from -4 to +140 degrees F. In colder climates, the use of lithium batteries with the sensor allows users to monitor temperatures as low as –40 degrees F. The sensor can transmit information to the base unit from up to 100 feet. To extend this range, or to detect the temperature of a swimming pool or fish pond, Taylor includes a removable 11-foot cable with the sensor. This product requires the separate purchase of a compatible 1453, 1456, or 1461 base unit and two AA alkaline batteries. The sensor measures 3 by 2-3/4 by 1 inches and weighs 1 pound. This item is covered by a one-year, limited warranty. --Jessica Reuling

4.0 out of 5 stars convenience (with a flaw), April 8, 2006
By just pixels (Williston, VT USA) - See all my reviews
( I bought from Amazon. )

I've had the base & one remote sensor for four months. Temperature is accurate and I haven't had to replace the batteries yet. The large display is easy to read.

It's nice to know the outside temperature before getting up & dressed.

The flaw: The tenths of a degree position on the base unit's local temperature is faulty. That wasn't worth the trouble to return & replace, but it's a sign of sloppy quality control.

4.0 out of 5 stars Taylor Digital Outdoor Thermometers, May 29, 2007
My system consists of 1 'home' (inside) unit (#1453) and 3 remote (outside) units (#1457). The home unit reads its own temperature plus one of the remote unit's. The other remote temperatures are read by repeatedly pushing a 'channel' button to cycle through all 3 remote units (the maximum allowed number of remote units).

I have two complaints with the system, one minor, one major. The first (minor) is that the read-out area on the home unit is small and not illuminated even by a button. The second (major) is that the remote sensors are distance-limited to about 50 feet unless there is a completely clear path between the home and remote units. (The maximum range stated in the instruction booklet is 100 feet.) I had extreme difficulty setting up my remote and home units so that all 3 remote units' signals were received and displayed by the home unit. More design work is needed so the 'next generation' does not suffer from this same limitation.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worked Superbly for 60 days, March 14, 2006
By D. McSwain "4GW" (San Diego, CA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Bought the primary and then two remote transmitter thermometers. Was really pleased with the main receiver and its ability to monitor the highs and lows at the primary and then at the two additional remotes. Then after about two months, the display kept fading and fading, and even with new batteries, the display will come up for a few seconds and fade entirely. Am very disappointed, will now start the task of contacting the company or Amazon to see what kind of replacement I can get, although once bitten by a product, I generally do not return to it.
