I was not sure if this would really work but it does. I have an 88 RX7 Convertible that is not driven in the winter, and over the past few years, I have had to replace the battery 3 times because it would die from lack of usage. I know it was my fault for at least not starting the car and driving it a few minutes every week to keep the battery charged. This was recommended to me by a friend, and I hooked it up as soon as I received it. This past weekend, was the first time it was nice and warm enough to take the car out and it started up immediately. I only wish I had gotten this several years ago.

I highly recommend this to any person who needs to keep a battery charged for a car that sits without use for an extended period of time. I hope this review has been helpful to you, and if so, please let me know.

I bought this to keep the battery in a little used car alive. I was a little upset when I read that it could take >50 hours to charge a smaller car battery, but in my case it had the battery fully charged in 10 hours ... I guess the battery wasn't as discharged as I expected. My only comment is that while they supply a ring terminal wiring set to leave permanently connected it is pretty useless for side connection batteries, as the rings are too small for the bolts :(

... in the details. the first one i had for 6 years just got killed by a shorted battery so i get another one and it doesn't come with the 12v cigarette lighter adapter like it did before. I kept mine but i told a friend to get one because of that handy accessory and that it was cheaper than "battery tender" brand for same specs. other than that i like it and it served me very well for 6 years

This is a quality constructed unit. I was suitably impressed with it for the price.

That said, I bought it and put it on a two year old battery on a Toyota Tacoma 3.4 for 6 months to keep it tended. I unplugged it for two days once a month just so it would not constantly be at top charge. When the truck was driven after that time on the tender, it lasted for two days, then the battery would not start and tested bad. Could be happenstance since the battery was already two years old, but I think trickle charge or full charge - still tough on the battery cells. Cars are meant to be driven daily. In the future I will just pull the positive and negative cables off the battery and hook it back up when it's time to run again. I think that occasional discharge is probably healthier for the battery than constant charging.

If you don't mind disconnecting the terminals, save your money IMHO. YMMV.

I have been searching for a 6 volt float charger to use on an antique car. I am familiar with the Accumate chargers as I have a 12 volt one for my motorcycle. This one seems to do the job very well in 6 volt mode, keeping the battery topped off and hopefully extending its life. No problems to report at all.

I bought a second one for my parents seldom used car. I like the rubber cap feature that covers the fittings when not in use. Adapter for cigar lighter makes it easy for someone to plug in without lifting the hood.

I have owned this charger for 9 years now. I still have the same battery in my motorcycle when i purchased the charger. I always plug the charger to the bike during the winter. This little charger has kept me from having to purchase batteries every two or three years like my friends have had to do. Highly recommended for anyone owning a vehicle that sits for 3 or 4 months without being used.

While I have had a battery tender for many years using it for a long time on a boat battery and lately on a car battery(we do not use the car a lot) the car battery still weakened over time to the point of having to replace it. My understanding of battery maintainers vs battery chargers was this was suppose to be prevented with maintainers taking gently care of the battery during times of no use. I decided to get another battery maintainer because we have another battery we keep for emergency purposes charged up in the basement. Rather than get another Battery Tender, I decided to do some research. After quite a bit of research, the AccuMate is the one I decided on and I made a Great Choice. So far, it is everything I wanted and needed. Not only was it rated one of the top 5 battery conditioners/maintainers, it also has one of the lowest prices. I got a good deal on Amazon (before they added taxes to purchases in our state, which for cost increases and boycott purposes I WILL NOT purchase from Amazon anymore)(and we will see if they print this or if they believe in our 1st Amendment)(seems companies like Amazon forget The Boston Tea party and get to big for their britches) and are much happier with this one over the Battery Tender. I am so glad I did not purchase another Battery Tender. They are really just a glorified charger whereas the AccuMate conditions the battery. I plan only to use on 12 volt batteries however it can be used on 6 volt batteries as well.
