Freaking awful! When these gloves first came out they were great. Over the years they've changed the shape, size, stitching, materials and their nothing like my original gloves. The red ones are just about the right finger length and the blue ones are way to long. The stiching in the fingers is in such a way their not like a second skin like the originals. Inconsistent sizing. Oh and the originals would shrink just a bit when washed so they became like a second skin after washing and wearing them a few times. not these. They just suck!

I replaced the control arms and front brake pads in my 2006 PT Cruiser. It was a messy job. I was a mess all over from crawling around under the car and on the floor, but these kept my hands clean and didn't have a scrape on them after I got done.

High praise given that you usually have to bleed on such a project to make it worth doing. ;)

I used to use the leather palm type of gloves for working (mechanic), they would start to get dirty and greasy, at which point I would figure they wouldn't last much longer. Once that point was reached I would not be careful about keeping them clean. Soon after that, they would get saturated with grease, or get a hole rendering them worthless.

These are a synthetic leather and seem to last forever. I've welded in them, got them super greasy then wiped them off, then continued using and abusing them. I bought another pair to replace them thinking they would get a hole pretty soon. That second pair is still sitting in my tool box unused. The first pair is about 2 years old now, but I don't use them every day. Only when I need the cushioning or splinter protection.

So the advantages are, paying a more now for these compared to buying multiple leather pairs. Much better dexterity and feel compared to the leather. Easy on and off. I've even had leather ones give me sort of a hand fungus (jock itch of the hand?).

Disadvantages, number one is cost. But if you look, you can find them for [...] bucks. They're not made for welding, so don't pick up something hot. I burned a pin hole in one of the fingers accidently touching the mig wire. Don't get the camo ones. If you leave them sitting somewhere, they'll camoflouge themselves, and get easily lost. My first pair I got blue, second bright yellow.

I love the Mechanix Wear gloves. I own several pairs. I like the style with a velcro wrist closure better than the pull-ons, but all are good.
These are great gloves for a number of purposes. Aside form keeping a pair in my car for whenever i need to work under the hood, I even used them for scuba diving. Less expensive than scuba gloves and work just as well.

I've had several pairs of these, I ordered 2 pair recently from Amazon (red & camo). The gloves I purchased from Amazon were manufactured in Vietnam and the fit and stitch quality was very good. I purchased another black pair from Walmart, which were manufactured in China. The chinese pair had a noticeably worse fit & I did also notice some poor stitching. I'm not sure if Wally world has a different contract with Mechanix Wear or what. The amazon pairs were cheaper to boot...

These gloves do the job & are still thin enough to allow dexterity for most tasks. I need to be able to use a pen while I work so these are good for my uses (automotive setting). They do however, like all gloves in this style, wear out. Mine last me about a month with 40+ hours of use a week. They tend to wear through at the finger tips, but like I said that is to be expected with the amount of use and abuse they take.

I love these things! they are so kool looking, they ARE light duty, I use the snug fitting size, my hand is average so I use a large. they may be a bit undersized by size. so keep that in mind. and they will loosen up after a while. you can still feel the nut, bolt wrench etc. with them on. and the hi viz color helps when you leave them on the work bench, lawn mower, etc. they help when you work around a hot engine to avoid burns. they are not asbestos so keep then in mind. I use them when riding the mower, gives more grip when you are sweaty. I also wear my left one when I go fishing. it keeps my hand from smelling fishy, and keeps me from getting a fin while removing the fish hook. I use them when doing yard work, running the weed eater, hedge trimmer etc. they will not stop a thorn, but you don't expect them too. I keep a pair in the truck, on the work bench as well as other spares. just neat useful gloves that give a better grip.

Cheap gloves from the Big Orange Home Store are only around $10/pr, but for metalwork they just don't last. The fingers blow out and the nylon melts from the heat of welding and grinding.

By comparison, these are far superior. The leather is substantially better (thicker?) and doesn't transfer as much heat into your fingers, but they are still thin enough to have decent dexterity for picking up fasteners, etc. The nylon backing can still melt under high heat, but they seem to be more resistant that the cheap gloves are.... So far I've only worn through one pair of these gloves. In that same time period with the cheap $10 gloves I'd surely have been through at least 4 pairs...
