If you want some morality tossed lightly with education in the videos your children watch, then this is a series for you. These Christian vegetables with a hip sensibility (sample dialogue: "You are so early-'90s.") play out a Batman-meets-Back to the Future scenario when a young asparagus tells his dad a lie to get out of trouble. That lie, embodied by a space alien, grows until it threatens the entire vegetable village, provoking Larry the Cucumber to heed the signal in the sky and hop into his flying Larrymobile designed by the eccentric and fallible inventor Alfred Asparagus. Action, music, and a Jerry-Springer-style deconstruction at the end with a blink-and-you-missed-it reference to God make for a half hour of involving and wholesome entertainment. --Kimberly Heinrichs

"The name's Fibrilious Minimus! But you can call me Fib!" A little fib turns into a big problem for Junior Asparagus! With dad's favorite bowling plate in pieces, Junior is sure to be punished ... until a strange visitor advises him to cover his tracks with a little white lie. Dad buys the story, but Junior notices his new friend seems a little bigger now and a lot less cute! Lies have a way of growing -- and it isn't long before Junior's "little fib" has grown into a 30-foot-tall monster, threatening to devour all of Bumblyburg! There's only one person to call in a crisis like this ... Bumblyburg's own superhero, Larry-Boy! But can anyone stop the Fib from Outer Space?!? This one, of the whole Veggie Tales series, is my personal favorite. There's a lot here to love. First, it teaches youngsters a valuable lesson about telling the truth both in its wholesome story and in the larger metaphor that first you control the lie but in time the lie controls you. Second, it's amazingly clever in its dialogue and concept and design, from the Larrymobile with its suction cup wheels to the way Larry-Boy, always the consummate nerd, screams "I--AM--THAT--HERO! " But best of all, adults can watch this video and be entertained as well as the kids, as the creators gleefully spoof Batman and superheros in general, bad sci-fi monster flicks, the Franklin Mint, pop culture and, in the final segment, music videos. All the Veggie Tales series are very funny, but this one makes you laugh so hard you'll have to rewind it in spots to re-watch the stuff you missed while recovering from cracking up. This deserves to be a classic. If the gang from Big Idea had never made another video, we could remain forever grateful for this one. Of course, then we never could have heard "The Hairbrush Song"...

Larry the Cucumber and Bob the Tomato are again hosting another VeggieTales video, this time giving a lesson in telling the truth (John 8:32b "The truth will set you free"). The story begins in the small town of Brumblyburgwhere Jerry and Jimmy are 'supposed' to be monitoring the area for aliens. And when an 'unidentified object' lands, it's up to Larry-Boy (aka Larry the Cucumber) to find out what it is. But Junior Asparagus is the first one to find it; it's an alien called Fib. And when Junior gets into some trouble, Fib gives him the perfect solution; to tell a little lie which of course wouldn't hurt anybody! Junior soon finds out that his little friend can become a HUGE problem! It's up to Larry-Boy and his Larry-Boy Mobile to save the day... if everything goes well...

Totally hilarious, I find this Veggie Tale to be thoroughly enjoying. With great Christian values, they're perfect for kids, teenagers, and even have adults interested with the wry humor, catchy and fun songs, and terrific animation and plot.

This tape is especially hilarious, from the very first part where Larry-Boy explains to Bob how times are changing and that he'll be 'left behind'. Then comes the joke about 'The Invasions of the Cow-Snatchers" which just cracked me up! Then the way they make fun of batman with the light in the sky... and I could go on! I especially love it when Larry-Boy's 'butler' yells to the computer, "BOOT!" Then of course Larry-Boy himself is so funny, with his 'super suction-cups'. The world premier of "Larry-Boy's Music Video" is simply hilarious and very catchy. I keep singing, "Lean, mean, green machine. Larry-boy!" The song is sung fantastically by Christian music artist Nicole Mullen. And I mean it when I say she sang fantastically, she has a terrific voice!

Once again, a great Veggietales video. At first the "fib" is cute, but then GROWS and talks in a pretty "scary" voice. This is not for little ones, especially if their little minds have not even been corrupt with the idea of lying yet. My three year old found it at the library, so that's how we ended up seeing it. Luckily his fascination is with "LarryBoy and his super suction ears and his wings that pop out and he turns into a car and he flys in to outer space." (exact quote.) Also, the fib's voice (when it's scary), and some others, are very hard to understand. This does not help with the message of the video. I'm returning it, and won't be buying it for a few years.
