When I learned I had diabetes, i of course, went to wikipedia, then google, etc and lo and behold, i learned about maitake mushrooms, a delicacy in the east, it happens to grow here in the northeast [USA] on oak trees, but i'm not about to go traipsing about in the woods, not to mention i ALREADY have chronic lyme disease and our 'woods' are full of deer ticks, its carrier!

Well, the lyme disease has been a real pain...literally... lots of pain and often, and blurry head, etc, and fatigue, weakness, compromised immune system - deeps spells of intense flu-like illness, feeling dead. Then along comes type 2 diabetes which explains a lot about how downright wretched i have been feeling and had lumped into my lyme worries. oh, and there was the babesiosis that came in the same tick, topped off with hereditary psoriatic arthritis which brings pain and deep stiffness, just no swelling.

i know. poor me. but hey, there are lots of poor me's out there, and that's why i am writing this, as the maitake is supposed to help the body regulate insulin, and its also reportedly good to correct problems with our immune system.

There are no instant cures out there. no, i take that back. the VERY day i took the solary maitake [ordered from amazon, of course] I noticed a difference. Energy, internal strength, clarity of mind and increased motivation, VERY improved reduction of sensitivity to such things as cigarette smoke and petrochemicals, and even reduction of pain [which moves around a lot in your body if you have lyme...]. Honest. I swear! I feel well. Yes, well.... for the first time in a dozen years. I was so sick I had to stop working, and I loved what I did. Basically I was just waiting around in constant pain running the gambit from terrible to unbearable. And..now...

About a week after I started taking this product I noticed that just one of my toes started itching like I had been bitten by a mosquito. It was so intense I couldn't sleep. I tried every product I could think of to stop the itching, but the toe just kept getting worse. I then noticed what I thought were blisters, but they were not filled with liquid. I also noticed that after taking a bath or shower the itching became unbearable. My toe then started to swell up, and turned purple. I had started another vitamin at the same time and thought maybe it had to be one of these vitamins that was causing the problem. So, after more than a month of suffering I stopped taking the Maitake. About 1 week later my toe stopped itching and the swelling and redness started to disappear. I must have had a fungal infection. I don't blame the product itself, but I'm sorry that I won't get to enjoy the benefits this product is said to give. I love mushrooms and eat them all the time, so the thought never entered my head that I might have any allergy to Maitake.

I have to say I totally agree with the lady who wrote the email above. I also have psoriatic arthritis, diabetes, COPD, a messed up auto immune system, and several bone diseases. When diabetes hit me, I thought well here's something I might just be able to control...what a joke. I got hit with neuropathy so bad in my hands and feet I wanted to just die. The pain was so intense I couldn't move at all. Finally a friend told me about maitake mushrooms and said it helped her neuropathy though she only had a mild form of it. I started on this mushroom and I have felt better almost within a few days. The problem is if I run out if it and forget to order it right away, I'm in agony until I get my shipment from Amazon. So this time I'm going to be smart and order 2 bottles at a time. Luckily I don't have Lyme disease, but I've got plenty of other problems that make up for it. I'm on all sorts of medication which I hate taking, but this doesn't seem to cause me any problems unless I take it on an empty stomach and I try not to do that with any medication or vitamin.

This is one that I think it is worth a try if you suffer from any auto immune disorder and that covers a lot of diseases. For me though it helps with neuropathy when nothing else has touched the pain.

Thanks, Fran

I bought these as a last ditch effort to help detox someone I love, but unfortunately it was too little too late. Oh well, not Maitake's fault. Japan has villages with virtually no cancer ever recorded because they eat lots of raw mushrooms like these.
