My grandmother used to manage and own a health food store back in the day. She's always been into healthy eating and living. Any orange-colored fruits and veggies are great for you, but if you cannot eat some for whatever reason, then this soft gel is for you. Of course, eating the actual food is best, but if you can't, get these. It has 25K IU's and will do the trick.

Vitamin A has several forms. The best known are:

- pre-formed (often in the form of Retinol and Retinal), derived from animal sources (oils and fats of ocean fish, liver, eggs and butter, for example), which is what used to be called vitamin A; the claim of toxicity is a myth. This is known to kill acne bacteria, for example, but the dosage has to be very high. Vitamin A (retinol) is fat-soluble and is stored in the liver where it becomes (with D, E and K, the other fat-soluble vitamins) a miraculous reservoir. Real vitamin A has had a bad press because synthetics have been mistaken for the real thing;
and

- carotene, called a "pro-vitamin" but poor conversion of beta carotene to vitamin A is common, so don't count on it. Recent research found that even healthy people do not convert beta-carotene into vitamin A in their bodies adequately no matter how much beta-carotene they get from their food. Also, it is water-soluble and does not work the same way as fat-soluble retinol. Further, beta-carotene can contribute to cancer.

More recently lutein and zeanthin (egg yolks are particularly good, also saturated fats from grass fed animals) are mentioned as carotenoids good for the eyes; they may help slow the development of age-related macular (dry, but not wet) degeneration (the biggest reason for blindness in old age - the modern medicine treatment carries a risk of death) and cataracts, but the body cannot make them into vitamin A.

Standard Process makes vitamin tablets from real food. Otherwise the answer is to go natural. Pastured egg yolks also provide all the fat soluble vitamins: A, D, E and K.

It's hard to write a review for supplements as you are not allowed to make claims. You only know if it isn't working. As long as it is working, you stay healthy. So I can only say that this is good for your eyes, and you can look up it's health benefits. Good price. Helps with night vision.

I started taking this because regular vitamin A can be bad for the liver. I found this gentle on my stomach and I never had any issues with feeling sick or my skin turning orange. So far i really enjoy this product.

The caps are teeny tiny but contain an amazing 25,000 IU. Easy to swallow for those that have swallowing issues with larger capsules. Skin and eye moisture improvement.
