This is the only digestive supplement that works for me. I have tried Betaine with Pepsin and it caused me stomach upset. Natural Factors Betaine HCL thankfully does not have Pepsin. My digestion has improved after I started taking these capsules. This is my second bottle and I can now safely say that it has no side effects. I have tried so many other supplements, enzymes, you name it and my body never adjusted to those. 5+ stars to this product.

Tried this product on the advice of a friend. Progressively had increased Zantac dosage to twice per day for about 6 years. Switched to Pepcid but still needed nightly. Immediate results with this product. Been off of these OTC products for about 4 months. Occasionally, might need 2 capsules, but typically 1 at dinner does the trick. One effect that I noticed is that since this product is an acid, you might feel the beginning of a very slight burning sensation just after ingesting. Avoid the temptation to take an antacid because it typically passes within a few minutes. Hope there are others that find the relief that I have.

Foods, particularly protein foods, are hard to digest if you are no longer a youngster, because the amount of stomach acid one produces declines with age (despite the contrary propaganda of the pill peddlars) If you would rather your food just rotted in your body, producing poisonous chemicals that your poor overworked liver and other organs have to deal with, just keep on without it. But if you want to get the most from your food, without symptoms that are so obnoxious (heartburn, flatulence, etc) and stay healthier besides, get this product, and take a couple right after your meal. Unless you like being an..uh...old f*rt.

This works well for protein digestion (I have low stomach acid and need more for digesting meat). I have tried other brands with pepsin and they have been huge and hard to swallow, as well as ineffective -- not so with these. The fact that there is no Pepsin in these pills has not affected their potency or ability to work. I take as many as I need before I experience reflux, which tends to be five at the moment.

Seems to have no bad effects - purchased to avoid other products with pepsin that are derived from pork and to ensure proper food digestion as HCI can be lacking with aging. It is important to break down food for absorption of nutrients and to prevent rotting undigested food within the body.

i start this product in sept after a careful consideration and a extensive research. my problem was elimination i'd visit the bathroom ones in three or four days, i knew something is wrong with my digestive track, so a start with Natural Factors Betaine Hcl 500mg the result was immediate the next day a felt a bowel movement from that day on i have no problem what so ever. i toke one with breakfast one or two with lunch and two with dinner. lately i add enzymes to enhance my digestive health i use Source Naturals Essential Enzymes 500 Mg Vegetarian Capsules, i think the combination make my tummy happy. if you are like me i'd gave this product a go.

On a recommendation from a family member, I used these pills to overcome needing to use OTC acid suppressing medications. Within about a month, I was completely off of the drugs and able to manage my digestive issues with these capsules. Now, I don't even need to use these except occasionally.

This version of Betaine HCI is for those of you that either have a allergic reaction to animal protein or you think animals are humans. It works very well but costs more then most of those with pepsin. I can't live without Betaine HCI and have found any form works well.
