I wanted to provide a review that compared these Quantum patches to the Johnston & Johnston Compeed patches that are in the UK.
I have suffered with cold sores for a very long time, and I don't get small ones. Mine are large and can cascade depending on if I catch them when they first pop up or not.
I bought the Compeed patches last year to give the patches a shot. Better than nothing, and Abreva never really seemed to shorten my normal healing time of 2.5 weeks. Compeed would have me healed in a week, which is awesome!
I currently have a bad outbreak after a cold, with 3 sores in 3 different places on my lip and under my nose. Of course ran out of the Compeed patches... So I went to my local Walgreens for these Quantum patches to try them out, until my new Compeed pack comes in the mail.
I find that these are very comparable to Compeed, they do the same things - but there are differences between the patches that could make you want one over the other.
The Quantum patches are a thicker material than the Compeed patches. The benefit to them being thicker is that the edges don't curl up when the patch starts to seep the liquid out of your cold sore. But the down side to the patches being thicker is that they are move obvious on your face & harder to conceal with makeup. The Compeed patches are a thinner material, and are nearly invisible when you put them on, but the edges can start to curl up during the healing process & because they are thinner they are a little more finicky to apply.
Now for size factor between the 2 patches: Quantums are 12mm in diameter and Compeeds are 15mm. If you only get small blisters, you should have no issue using these Quantum patches. But if you are like me and get large, cascading blisters - these Quantum patches are too small.

I have been suffering with cold sores all my life. A couple of years ago, a friend from the UK told me about a cold sore bandage by Johnson and Johnson that they sold in the UK. It was not available in the US. I had my friend ship me a bunch of them. They were ok at covering up the cold sore, but they fell off at the slightest drop of liquid, even if I tried to be careful drinking a glass of water. They did not speed up the healing process at all. A couple of weeks ago I saw this product from Quantum Health in my local Walgreens. Of course, I was hesitant as I still have five containers of UK product at home, but I picked up this product anyway because I developed a huge cold sore with three enormous blisters right on my lip. This product is a little smaller in circumference than the J and J product, and it barely covered the three blisters, but it did manage to cover almost all of their surface area. The real difference, though, is in this product's performance. First of all, it sticks much, much better than the J and J product or a previous product I had also tried from Abreva (the Abreva product fell off immediately, did nothing to speed healing and looked like a sticker and was very noticeable. I threw away the rest of the package.) Where this product really shines is in its healing action. This little bandage absorbs ALL the liquid out of the blisters!!! So much so, that the bandage itself actually swells up to three times its initial size with the stored liquid. Amazing!!! The blisters remain much flatter than they would otherwise, instead of being extremely swollen. You will be astounded when you wake up in the morning and the bandage has captured so much liquid! I know it's gross but it's actually quite effective at speeding healing.Read more ›

I have used the Johnson and Johnson Compeed plasters for years and I do think that nothing beats them. These plasters have fantastic sticking power and absorbency but they are less clear then the Compeed plasters, so I would only use this brand at night during sleeping and for this purpose they are great. As one person said - nothing really hides a cold sore, but it makes them look less unsightly and stops other people from getting infected; I think they are essential if you are going to the dentist, for example. From experience over many years, I can tell you that sores do heal slightly more quickly and with less scarring than if you leave the sore exposed or try to dry it up with alcohol etc.

Better than not having anything one. Treats it fine. Tends to pull out a white puss while it's on, so you'll have to remove/replace the see-through bandage once every ~4 hours or so while using them in public. Keep that in mind! If you don't, the "invisible bandage" turns into a white sticker. I totally see what people are saying with how it resembles a sticker. Make sure you apply it correctly and there is enough tension so it forms to the lip more discretely.

I ran through a couple boxes of these in about 10 days. I use them exclusively in public, then apply ointment and let the cold sore breath while at home. I recommend Compeed's version (shipped form the UK so order them ahead of time so you have them at hand when you need them). Compeed adheres much better and doesn't cause a film/puss reaction on the sore, allowing the bandage to mask and last longer.

Only one person noticed I had something on my lip in the two weeks I was treating my cold sore. I call that a success. Even then, they didn't know what it was. Distance was 2-4 away; indoor lighting.
