Directions
Use 1 capful (5 mL) for each 40 L (10 gallons*) on the first day with a new aquarium. Then use 1 capful for each 80 L (20 gallons*) daily for 7 days. My stepson got a 55 gallon tank for christmas, and I had been trying to get it to cycle for some time before he moved his fish into it, using added ammonia. No luck, so the fish were moved over and we used Seachem Prime (another exellent product) and continuous water changes to keep the ammonia levels down. Two weeks and a couple of bacteria products later, we were still getting 2ppm ammonia and 0 nitrites and nitrates. I ended up getting Stability and the same day the ammonia went down to .25ppm and we finally got readings on the nitrites and nitrates. It has worked very well for us.

WORD OF CAUTION: If you get this or any other live bacteria product, make sure you do one day shipping (at least if it is summer or winter). The temperature extremes during average shipping can kill off the bacteria, leading to this being as useful as a bottle of water.

A must-have for tank setup and water changes. I've been using stability for years, and it's one of the best "good bacteria" products out there. Highly recommended! Just be sure to read directions, have a healthy tank to start with and be educated as to how nitrates, nitrites and ammonia levels work in a tank cycle. With good information and a great product like this, you can't go wrong. I also recommend Seachem's Neutral Regulator and a spit of Stress Coat for every water change.

Update: It works...or it doesn't. My initial review stated that it worked on multiple salt water tanks for me, which it did. But then a year later I tried it with a fresh water tank and it didn't work (cycled through ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate just as if I hadn't used it.) Tried again with a salt water tank and it failed again. Both of the failures were with a bottle that had been open for over a year, so it's quite possible that it has a limited shelf life. So if you're going to try it, I'd suggest buying the smallest bottle that will treat your tank and use a new bottle every time. And err on the side of safety and don't add livestock until you're sure your tank has cycled, and then add slowly.

Original review: I have used this product multiple times to start quarantine tanks and hospital tanks (marine tanks, with both fish and coral.) It works; it's worked every time. I've never had my tanks spike ammonia or nitrite when using this product as directed. I'm amazed how many websites & forums claim that no such product exists. Also, the reviewer who says that you have to keep using it is wrong, for so many reasons (the bacteria don't get used up and die, they multiply, just like all bacteria, and also, all of the bacteria that would normally be in your tank if you cycle the traditional way will also still exist in the tank.) I've never used the product beyond 7 days, not even with water changes, and my tanks have never "crashed" when I stopped using this. I would, however, consider stocking the tank lightly, and gradually building up stock.

I started a new 36 gallon freshwater tank and used SeaChem Stability to kick-start it. Added a few fish immediately (4 danios, 4 cherry barbs) and things went perfectly. Water is balanced, clear, and clean- my fish are thriving. Definitely helps reduce tank shock. You still need a dechlorinator and the best filter you can afford; I use a Rena Filstar XP2 and am very happy. Avoid overfeeding and use a good quality food (NOT TopFin!!!).

I have been keeping tropical fish for more than 20 years and operated a commercial tropical fish farm several years ago. Sometimes I run into the situation when a new tank must be cycled rapidly in order to accommodate fish.

In the vast majority of occasions, Seachem Stability has failed to cycle my tank despite following instructions. I even tried using triple dose daily for 7 days and nitrites would not change at all. The competing product Tetra SafeStart would work within 24 hours.

In my desperate attempt to see this product work, I poured another bottle of Stability (poured entire 500 ml) bottle into a 20 gallon tank, and after 2 days nitrite was still high at 0.5 ppm, as if I had not done anything at all.

I am a big fan of Seachem Prime but after trying four bottles of Seachem Stability 500 ml, my conclusion is that this product is no better than a placebo. It has zero effect on nitrite.

I cannot attribute these observations to receiving a bad batch because each of 4 bottles were purchased separately. Success rate with Seachem Stability: 0 out of 4 bottles. Success rate with Tetra SafeStart: 7 out of 7 bottles.

I used Seachem Stability to try to get the cycle going on a 10 gallon aquarium with an axolotl in it. I'd been struggling to get the cycle going with the juvenile axolotl, and figured I'd give this a shot.

Followed the instructions to the T, even purchased a small syringe to make sure I was putting exactly the amount that was necessary in the tank each time.

After two weeks of use, my aquarium was still showing no signs of being cycled...it hadn't even established any nitrites...let alone any nitrates. The ammonia level would be the same as it was without any Stability from before I started using it.

Maybe I just got a bad bottle, but I had no success with this product at all. Two stars because it didn't do anything really negative to my aquarium, it just didn't do anything positive, either.
