This product was a severe disappointment. I maintained this heater as I was supposed to--kept it at the proper water level, etc. A week after opening it, the product began to randomly turn off altogether--i.e. leave the water ice cold--or heat up to the point of being painful to the touch. Two weeks after opening the product, it began to sizzle in the tank. For fear that my fish would be hurt or electrocuted, I removed it from the tank and unplugged it. Five minutes after placing it on the floor, it started to smell like burning. I picked the product up and found a huge burn hole in my floor where it had been. The bottom of the heater exploded off. I managed to be able to pick the pieces up with a plastic bag after ten minutes of attempts. I was terrified that something in my room would catch fire. After this whole ordeal, my baby dalmatian molly, the only fish in the tank, died. I contacted the seller, and their response was an underwhelming, "Well, you did it wrong." They were unapologetic and unsympathetic about anything that transgressed, proceeding to outline what I did to cause this whole incident, even though I had done research and knew what I was doing. I am not pleased in the least with this purchase, and would never buy from this seller again, nor would I recommend them to anyone.

I bought the heater at a local pet store, for a very cheap price. I was just looking to heat my quarantine tank, and was not expecting anything fantastic. But oh my goodness.... It jumped from too cold to too hot in the blink of an eye. I decided to turn it up a hair, because it was t 76, and I wanted it at 78. I literally turned it 3 hair's width. The pilot light came on, and I went to bed without worrying about it. It was a summer night, so it stayed fairly warm. My dog woke me up around 2 am, so I got up to deal with him. I noticed the pilot light was still on. I turned my light on and checked my thermometer, and found that the tank had jumped up to 92 degrees, and the heater was still going strong. I unplugged the thing. I took it with me in my move to Oregon, and used it for another month or so. As long as you never try do adjust the temp, it works okay. Then one day, I noticed the heat jumping all over the place. I looked at it, and saw it had exploded, and filled with water. Again, I was so lucky not to have lost any of my fry. But I will not be buying one of these ever again.

This is the worst heater I have ever bought. There is no gauge to adjust the temperature. You have to just guess and then measure the temperature of the water. The worst part is there is no tolerance on the thermostat. It just flicks on and off like a child playing with a light switch. That is a little exaggerated but close enough. It seems cheaply made so I would even be leery about it exploding in the tank. Needless to say I bought and threw away all in the same day.

The heater is really good for my 39gal tank and actually I think it would be capable of heating a larger tank cause it can get my tank to 90 degrees no problem probably can go higher. I keep my tank at 80 though. The only bad thing is I have to fill my tank to the top to cover the water line of the heater and I like to leave my tank 2 inches of room. Also the glass is frail so be extra careful with it. Lastly the cord is short and I have to use extension cord to plug it in. Hope this info helps!

The night i set it up in my tank it busted and started a fire. If my pet chinchilla hadn't woken me it would have been disatrous. I returned it and got a full refund. I did read the directions and set the temp low to begin with so i could monitor the changes. there is no reason why it should have busted. Maybe i just got a bad one, but be careful with this product.

Bought 3 of these, one of which i needed to use right away. There was flashing lights coming from my tank and the circuit breaker blew out. Tried the second one and it happened agsain. Either they were all defective or Amazon's shipping allows them to become damaged in some undetectable way rattling around in their oversized shipping boxes.

I had a 10-gallon tank with some beautiful mollies. I just had to house them for one day before they could be added to a 55-gallon tank. This heater couldn't even handle the task for one day. Overnight, it unexpectedly overheated and fried my fish. Don't be cheap: if you care about your fish, invest in a decent submersible heater with a reliable thermostat. When it comes to aquarium heaters, you really do get what you pay for. Unfortunately, I had to learn this the hard way.

I purchased one and was extremely dissapointed. The temperature strip was missing, and after 2 days it started to crack. And no the crack did not come from my fish. I cant believe someone would sell something like this. Where is the common decency? I will never buy anything from this seller again.
