Now while I can't say that this is just as good as a Gibson its close enough. Bought this guitar from American Musical Supply for $319.99 (with free shipping) and for the price it is not bad at all. I ordered it on Sunday night arrived Wednesday playable right out of the box!!!

Looks

Its truly beautiful not as detailed as Gibson but who cares. I got the ebony with chrome hardware the picture does not do this guitar justice. I swear it looks three times as good as it does in the picture.

Sound

For a guitar of this price the pickups are great. On a clean channel the neck/rhythm pickup provides a nice thick rich warm bluesy tone with sustain that seems to last forever! While the bridge/treble pickup provides a bright perfect tone. When mixed with my Big Muff Pi & Boss DS-2
Turbo Distortion pedals (both are a great buy) it provides deep smooth rhythms and ear scorching leads.

Durability

The guitar it self is very well made and can take quite a beating.
My only gripe so far is it goes out of tune with the original strings. So I swapped them out for a new set haven't had a problem since.

Overall

If your looking for a cheap alternative to a $2000-3000 Gibson Les Paul without sacrificing sound or durability this is by far your best bet. If something ever happened to it without a thought I'd replace it in a second.

This guitar was ready out of the box. Fit and finish was excellent. Plays like a much more expensive guitar. I won't insult your intelligence, by saying it sounds, or plays like a Gibson. But for the money, it's a no brainer. It has that true Les Paul feel. If mine was damaged or stolen, I'd definitey buy another. I've been playing for about 30 years, and I've had my share of axes. For the money this is a solid.

I started getting serious with guitar when I was about 13, now going on 20, I've acquired some skill. I've played with some bands and recorded some tracks, all as a lead and accompaniment to a skilled acoustic part, which means tone and sound are of importance. I've played alot of guitars, SGs, Strats and Teles, Deans and more, and have owned a well broken in Stratocaster for years now, my pride and joy. I was a proud owner of an SG for a few months, but had to sell it for financial binds which hurt pretty bad, but I loved the humbucker sound. So when Christmas rolled around I was able to convince my parents to get this beauty as a last big gift. IM IN LOVE!!!!! The finish is incredible, the black is beautiful in contrast to the deep cream binding and pickguard. The Grover tuners are amazing and the pots/knobs feel great and work excellent. The trapezoid inlays are something to behold. But my favorite part and what I believe to be the winner for any guitarist: the sound. The Alcino V pickups and separate tone/volume controls make this baby sound incredible, from fat authentic Les Paul tone to crunchy and high treble tones. And the selector switch in the middle give you the ability to blend tone and send chills down your back. Its hefty and feels great in the hands of a player whose used to curvy and light Strats, and its well balanced on a strap as opposed to how neck heavy my SG was. I love the sound through a clean amp with some reverb, and when dirty this thing commands attention with its tone, if the looks didn't already do it. My Strat is due for new pickups and a unique wiring set up to achieve maximum tone possibility, and new tuners and maybe a new neck with a reverse headstock for cosmetic appeal. The Les Paul, new Super Slinkys and Straplocks.Read more ›

Every guitarists... well anyone who's ever bought a guitar has been in the same situation, you stand there at the guitar shop looking at all the choices not knowing which one to pick. Surprisingly you have enough money and interest in a couple of choices. Well there you stand looking in agony wondering which guitar is the right choice to fulfill your guitar needs. Well a Les Paul is a great choice for sure, most "hardcore guitarists" believe that the Les Paul is over rated and just made popular because a lot of famous guitarists played with one (Jimmy Page, Slash, Pete Townshend, Les Paul himself, and many more). Well the truth is a Les Paul is a guitar that can fill all your music playing needs, and with it only making a small dent in your wallet you will realize its quality as well.

Les Paul's are made with mahogany wood which help to give it its distinct signature sound that makes you fall in love with it every time. Mahogany being heavier wood then other types of wood used to make guitars; it does make the Les Paul a little bit on the heavy side. But what comes out on the sound side of it makes up for the little bit of discomfort. The mahogany gives it deeper sounds with great sustain, giving it a rock based sound to start with. The Les Paul also has a rosewood fretboard which also gives it its warm deep tasty sound.

The price might scare you at first glance but it's well worth it, plus with it being an Epiphone Les Paul it's roughly a fourth the price of a Gibson one. While many guitarists argue that you can't beat the sound and quality of a Gibson, an Epiphone Les Paul sounds just as good as a Gibson Les Paul. To me the Epiphone is better because it looks and sounds the same while keeping you from crying over the price.
