I upgraded the bass and tom tom heads on my Pearl Rhythm Traveler kit (ASIN: B0002FO4R8) to these heads with amazing results. Before upgrading the open bottom toms had a lot of ring and were impossible to get the tone I wanted no matter how carefully I tuned them. I replaced the heads with these and was rewarded with an amazing difference in sound quality. The ringing, hollow quality I previously struggled to correct is now a nice "thump" sound that works perfectly with jazz and rock.

In addition to this head I upgraded to the 10" (ASIN: B0002E1FQW) on my other mounted tom and the 14" (ASIN: B0002D0DSO) on my floor tom. The results were so dramatic that I also upgraded the batter side head on my bass drum with the 20" bass drum head (ASIN: B0002D0E3S).

In addition to achieving the exact sound I wanted I also get far better stick response, and have found that tuning these heads are far easier than any other head I've used, including Remo that I use on my Ludwig kit.

These heads have transformed a relatively inexpensive drum kit into a professional quality kit that is incomparable in sound and performance.

Evans Hydraulic Glass Tompack, Standard (12 inch, 13 inch, 16 inch)I have been playing drums since I was nine years old, hard rock, blues, jazz, funk, I have played it all. I am now 54, so what, I feel twenty five and I am still playing hard. I grew up on these drums playing to Zeppelin, The Who, BOC, and today, Tool, Linkin Park, and the list goes on. Those are my qualifications for what it's worth. I have played a great number of heads over the year, from REMO Weatherking's, Silverdots, Vintage Emperors and Pinstripes, all are very good. A few years ago I strayed off the beaten path of Remo and tried a set of Evans Hydraulics on my set. It is a 1976 Ludwig Blue Vistalite kit, eight drums deep with three Roto's. I got the Evans initially because they even made the hydraulic heads for my smallest 6 inch tom. I put this blue sticky blob stuff called Moongel (RTOM) on each one, just a small piece on each drum will do as they have a resonating undertone that need a little damping under the lights of a live show. I love the Evans Heads, they last forever, they sound better than any Remo head I have ever owned and they take the punishment I put down, and I play hard, very hard. Ever play Moby Dick soft? Can't be done. I have the Evans EC (Older one) on my snare and it pops with a sound much like a coated head which I love on this otherwise open sounding drum, it has great control. On the 24 inch Bass Drum I have the Evans EMAD, rings attached. It has lasted longer than any Bass head I have ever owned, in fact it has lasted through two bass pedal hammers and is still going strong.Read more ›

great heads
there's goo in between them heads, something about hydraulic
you can see the little bubbles crying between the plastic
this makes a great sound, buy it
and when you tighten them, the goo changes form slightly
ah, good times, good times

I wanted a head for my snare drum that had a really thudy wet sound like what you hear from Sput or Larnell with Snarky Puppy. I put this on my sensitone snare and it gave me the sound I was looking for.

Most of the heads I use at this point are Evans, and I feel they produce a high quality product.

These heads are extremely easy for a beginner to use as well. They provide the sound that most beginners would like to hear and have really good durability. they are not as resonant as many other drum heads on the market, but they aren't designed to be. I wouldn't use these heads on a drumset being used for live performance accept for on a snare, but they do work well in some cases for the studio.

In my opinion, these are the best heads on the planet. They give you that deep fat sound without a lot of ring. They are simple to tune up and I have found them to be very durable. I'm hooked and will be buying these forever.

Evans heads are among the very best. I used this head for an 18 inch bass drum I converted to a big floor tom. Hydraulics last forever and do not suffer from excessive overtones, even in larger sizes. Enough said!

These heads are truly awesome! I'm in my mid 40's and just started playing less than a year ago. I purchased a 5 piece Tama Imperialstar as my 1st kit, not knowing how much time I would spend playing. Love it. Can't get enough, try to play every day. One of the first things I learned, a statement from the Evan's website, a bad or poorly tuned drum head can make the most expensive kit sound horrible, and the right batter head and resonant head can make the most inexpensive kit sound amazing. I have watched countless tuning videos and podcasts trying to get that right sound, I was always close to the sound I was looking for, but never 100%. Always needed some gel, some tape, come sort of dampening material on the drum head. Not with these heads. I have the hydraulic blue on all of my toms (10, 12, 14, 16) and on my kick (22). I paired the batter heads with the Evan's EC resonant heads, the sound is amazing! The attack is great, durability is unheard of (can barely tell a drumstick has even touched the heads), and the sustain is great. If you get the batter and resonant heads in tune to each other, you get an incredible 5-6 second sustain with no overtones or annoying ringing. I tune everything by ear so it took a little time, maybe 3-4 hours to install all the heads and perfect the tuning. Evan's describe these heads as having a fat 70's sound, I would describe the sound as deep and full without projecting any bright, tight or fragile tones like all of the other heads I've tried. I haven't tried yet, because my kit sounds perfect to me, but I think I could easily increase the pitch, remember to start with your most difficult tom 1st and work 'out', increase the pitch and achieve that higher, tighter and brighter sound. So, it may be the most versatile and durable head on the market.Read more ›
