I have had these strings before after a leading fiddle player recommended them and i found them very good and kept in tune well'. its a pity they can,t be bought in u. .k which would come cheaper re. postage etc. i find these strings superior to thomastic infeld which I was using for over 30 years but as I don't play in public anymore I purchase the old fiddler line for my son who has his own band.another good point is taking into consideration the postage from U.S.A.they are about £6.00 cheaper than thomastic infeld which are available not far from where I live in nr. Ireland. I,m glad I found that old fiddler strings can be bought with the help from amazon

Excellent sound! I was impressed how much volume there was just by changing strings from a lower-end set to these. Almost too much if you are trying to keep things quiet or trying to play in a small room near neighbors, but a mute could easily fix that. These would be especially great for someone who will be playing in a group or outside. I plan to buy a backup set. These are very high quality.

I was never very happy with the sound of my violin with Thomastik Dominant strings and when I began playing Scottish fiddle, I really wanted a better "fiddle" sound, so I started looking for steel strings rather than the synthetic core strings I was using. These were a definite improvement towards the kind of sound I was looking for. For the money they probably can't be beat, but I wound up using D'Addario Helicore which are a step up from these. Old Fiddler strings were a bigger improvement towards the fiddle-sound I wanted than the Helicore are over the Old Fiddler, but the Helicore are not particularly expensive as violin strings go so I recommend them instead unless the extra cost is an issue.

As I took out the A string it tangled and I was trying to get it unstuck and it snapped. It can stand tension like all hell but will snap when trying to be untangled... So Now I'm out of an A string. E string sounds nice though. It seems only two of the four strings had a little black thing to prevent it from digging into the bridge.

EDIT: After talking with Amazon they have sent a replacement. I originally rated it two our of 5 out of sheer frustration. However, After taking a shower and thinking about it. The strings themselves are decent strings to me, a beginning student. Therefore I am re-rating it.

I've been using another, cheaper brand of fiddle strings for a few years. I decided to try these out since they were on sale, and, Wow, what an improvement. I could tell a big difference after bowing a few seconds. You get what you pay for. These are well worth the extra cost I paid.
