My 105 pound Dogue de Bourdeaux (he's a runt, lol) goes through 3-4 leads a year. He snaps them. I had been using this red/orange 30 ft cable that seemed to last longer than others I'd tried, but after he went through two of those in a relatively short amount of time, I did a search for "indestructible dog lead" and found this puppy. In the past, these twisted steel cable leads have failed relatively soon, but so far this one is holding up. I will report back if/when he finally snaps it. If it makes it more than 4 months, I'll consider it a winner. It's worth mentioning that the price is a good value.

edit July 25, 2013: This lead is still kicking although it does show signs of wear.

I have a Great Pyrenees who is about 130 lbs who likes to lounge around in the backyard supervised. His previous tie out was purchased from Petsmart and though I don't recall the brand or specifications, it was also a 30 ft tie out. This one is MUCH superior! Over the winter, my previous tie out cracked and broke due to the cold weather. This tie out has a much thicker gauged steel core, and a thicker protecting layer. Unlike my previous tie out, this one has not kinked yet and my dog has never gotten tangled in it due to the nice hefty weight from a quality product. I'd definitely recommend, it's a well made pet product.

After a rough day of playing the the yard, my Great Pyrenees retire to the deck to eat and "bask". This is the only tie out they've never been able to chew through. You can buy as many $7 and $10 tie outs as you want, but $20 is a small price to pay to protect their lives.

Excellent product! Seems to be very sturdy & high quality. We have 3 dogs - 90lb pit mix, 70lb lab mix, & 35lb border collie mix. We use a tie out only to let them out for potty needs bc we do not have a fence. The lab mix is the only one that darts to chase things & I don't see this tie out breaking or failing anytime soon.
It is heavy, but the 35lb dog does not have any issues walking around at all.

I've had this for 2months now- replaced an old store bought one that was on its last leg. Will update if it fails me! But otherwise I think this is a high quality & heavy duty tie out- would recommend!

This is a pretty decent cable that I use on my corkscrew tie out stakes. I bought two and only use them when we go camping. Otherwise, they're stored in my garage. I imagine they would eventually get cracked if you left them outside all the time. My only gripe is this cable HURTS when your dog accidentally hits you with it. I don't just tie up my dogs and leave them outside, so I'm always nearby when they're hooked up to these cables. If they happen to run around my legs or pull the cable against my bare skin, it feels like someone is peeling the skin straight off of my body. However, as long as you know to steer clear of the cables when your dog is running, they work out perfectly fine.

We have a Pitbull who is a runner, I bought this chain to replace an another one (different brand) that worked fine, but was getting old and rusty. When I saw the cable I thought it would work very well as it appeared to be very strong. While the cable was strong, the snaps are not. The first time we had her out there the ring on her collar slipped out of the clasps and she was off like a bullet. She went running down a busy street in the middle of rush hour and disappeared. For a long time we had no idea where she was, and I drove around the neighborhood with my two young daughters until we finally spotter her. My daughter was able to coax her inside the car so crisis was averted. However, needless to say the snaps have a fatal flaw and the chain is only as strong as its weakest part, so it is going back to Amazon. I'm just glad that we were able to safely catch her or else I would have had some extremely upset little girls missing their beloved dog.

It was WAY to heavy and not flexible at all. My dog is very strong but even he couldn't drag this thing around. It constantly got hung up on everything in sight, including twisting around itself. Total waste of money.
