There's NO SUCH THING as a "best string". From experimenting over the years, I've found that, while I have "old standbys" that will be the first thing I try, often there is a string that is just right for a particular guitar and it varies from guitar to guitar.

Coated strings have become all the rage over the last few years. They're expensive, but they last a lot longer, especially if you have the kind of body chemistry that causes them to corrode quickly. Also, they minimize the amount of finger noise you get if you slide on the strings.

Elixir Polywebs were the first coated string. The coating is much heavier than that of other strings. This produces a much less bright, more muted sound. I have an old koa guitar that is so bright I can't stand it with standard strings. The Elixir Polywebs tone it down to the point where it's perfect.

If you're looking for a darker sound, then Elixir Polywebs are definitely worth a shot. If you want a coated string but prefer the brighter sound of uncoated strings, then you definitely don't want Polywebs.

The 4 stars applies if you want this particular type of sound. If you don't want this sound, you could end up awarding them 1 star.

These strings are awesome. Just make sure you put them on right, and hopefully you don't tend to break strings often because they will get expensive if you do. The tone just can't be beat. I swear, they could make even a crappy guitar sound great!

First, let me say these strings really do live up to all the hype and their extra expense. The Elixier Acoustic 80/20 Bronze Guitar Strings in Light Gauge with the Polyweb Coating have a beautiful, bright, clear tone. Both the bass and treble strings have good response and are well balanced for each other.

While there may be other coated strings trying to get your dollar but Elixir pioneered the coated string movement and their's are the best other there. Not only do they sound great, but they last about 3 times longer than the Martin Marquis strings we used to use (we also think the Elixir's sound better than the Marquis). The guitar they are used on in an acoustic/electric guitar with active electronics.

I've been playing/performing/teaching acoustic guitar since 1975. I do love these strings and use them almost exclusively. Caveat: When they're dead, they're *really* dead.

I find these strings to last about 3x as long as conventional ones, and about 3x as expensive as well. So, I'm really only saving in the time/effort/inconvenience involved in changing strings. It's a wash, but slightly in my favor!

I've e mounted these strings on a Martin and an Epiphone Masterbuilt. Both guitars are acoustic/electric and sound fantastic through my Fender Mustang amp. The tones and ring qualities are fantastic. They really brought to life the Epiphone that suffered from played out demo strings.

Been buying guitar strings a very long time... these are some of th best ever! Beautiful tone; No buzz; very little break-in time for stretch & tuning. Over a month later and still holding tune extremely well (minor adjustments only) and no oxidation has started at all. Highly recommend these high quality strings!

It's no wonder these strings come so highly recommended by Taylor. These are awesome high quality great sounding strings and I love how they are each individually wrapped.
I used them for my big baby Taylor.
Warning: if you have a mom that goes through your mail-- make sure she know these are strings!!! My mom got mad at me because she thought they were condoms when she opened up the package if the strings in the mail... Weird huh?

I love the way these strings sound and they last forever. No. They really do.

My acoustic has had the same strings for 2 years. 2 years!! That's absurd. They still sound good, too. In fact, they sound better than they did new because they have lost that tinny "new-string" sound. Now they sound like normal phosphor bronze strings that have been on a guitar for 3 weeks.

I was traveling in Europe with one of my guitars that had a 2-month old set of strings. Somebody plucked a few notes and looked up to exclaim, "new strings"! I kind of laughed to myself. These strings have completely changed what I consider to be a "new" set.

Granted, they are not cheap, so if you break strings a lot it can get expensive. Clearly, I do not break strings a lot, so for me they are awesome.
