I remember getting to try these out before they came on the market. At the time they were called 'Gore-Tex' or something like that. I wrote them back saying the coating was too thick. (I'm sure I wasn't the only one who said that).

Well now it's ten years later and they have a very successful product on their hands. Make sure you get the NANOWEB version, unless you're a jazz player. The 'polyweb' coating is just too thick for my tastes. It really mellows the tone of the strings a lot. The coating on the nanowebs is just right.

I used to play D'Addarios. After you play on these for an hour or two, they sound like a 2 day old set of D'Addarios. This is perfect, especially because they sound like that for WEEKS!

I gig quite a bit, and these will go for about a month before the tone goes dead enough to be objectionable. I usually change them out before then, just to prevent string breakage. With that said, these strings are not any more prone to breakage than other brands.

I also like the fact that the newer version (been out for a year or two now) has anti-rust coating on the E, B, and G strings as well. This makes a big difference to someone like me, who has sweaty hands. The anti-rust really does work.

Downsides? Well, price is one.
The other would be the fact that if you're addicted the zing factor you get with brand new strings, you may be dissapointed. Out of the box, these are deader sounding than a new set of GHS, Ernie Balls, D'Addarios, etc. But if you compare them a week later, the Elixirs will still be sounding as good as the day you put them on.

I have been buying these strings for 7 years. I like the polyweb better as it seems a tiny bit more broken in (not as bright) and to me they seem to last much longer.

Best strings for your money, I sweat some sort of corrosive oils and these strings stay sounding new for weeks…if not months. I can turn normal strings into dead and rusty soundless pieces of wire after three days. No matter how old the Elixirs get, they never will sound as bad as uncoated strings.

I've also tried other coated strings and these are the best hand down. Used them on both electrics and acoustics and they last for ages. All my guitars use these, it is a no-brainer for cost when you go through normal strings quickly.

I was looking for strings for my guitar that had a softer feel, other than the original steel strings that were stressing my fingers. Through research I decided to try the Elixir strings with the light polyweb coating. I could not be more plesased. I believe I have found my relief and answer. These Elixir strings feel great and they make playing my fender such a joy. I plan to buy a set for my acoustic guitar. Thank you Elixir. I also Thank Amazon for always having better pricing than the competition.

Not breaking a string during a live performance is the best insurance a guitarist can have. These strings last! They retain the tone quality much longer than traditional strings that collect all the grime from your fingers and also guard against those of us that have an acidic quality in our hands that eat through strings quickly. These hold up and retain tone. Accept no substitute. Just wished that they still produced the bass strings in Polyweb. The Nanowebs are a joke. Bring back the originals! For Electric Guitar.. these are the bomb!!

I've been using Elixirs since I bought a Taylor years ago. I used to just use them on my acoustics because the sounded amazing, but now I use them on both my acoustics and electrics. These strings go great on a Taylor T-5 or a Les Paul. Yes, they are heavier gauge as the other reviews pointed out, and the G string is a wound G. Heavier gauge and a wound G can make solos more difficult if you're bending strings, but I've had no problem adjusting. They last forever, sound great, and Amazon has them at a great price. I really can't say enough about Elixirs.

Elixir - Polyweb (do not get the nanoweb). Hands down the best guitar strings on the market and the best bang for your buck. These have lasted me months without rusting and loosing tone. And that is with heavy use.

I can't say enough about the clarity, touch, tonality, sustain, speed, subtlety, and playability of these strings. I heard about them from Scott Grove on YouTube, and he always leads be up the mountain of guitar happiness. Scott claims they last a year, and if that is true, they are worth far more than changing out your strings once a month with a cheaper brand. Save money and time with these strings. "String and be happy". These are likely the strings I will play with for the rest of my life. I kid you not.

They will last and last... if you keep a level of maintenance!

I recommend cleaning your fretboard thoroughly before changing strings and keeping your guitar in a properly maintained humidity level (or at least in a dry gig bag!).

MOST IMPORTANT: I use Fast Fret before and after I play (some mineral oil on a lint-free cloth will work just about as well), and my Elixirs last months and months. It is a discipline, much like how the Samurai kept his blade clean, but will keep your strings in shape.

For other brands, some tarnish or even rust may appear after a few weeks of normal use, and I would have to use WD-40 to remove it (just don't get it on the guitar's wood!!!). Sometimes it wouldn't help, and the strings (sometimes not even all of them, just the wounds or just the unwounds) would just sound dead and need to be replaced.

Elixirs still sound good, and keep a consistent tone across all of the strings that sound nice. I can't say that they sound as bright as the day they came out of the package, but it's WAY more bang-for-your buck. I've also yet to see one spontaneously break on me under normal stress and tension, but I'm not about to tune my guitar higher to test my luck.

I am a studio musician and play a lot, and from over 15 years of experience, these are my favorite strings. I'm currently recording an album with an Ibanez RG470 and the same strings I've had on for four months.

Ask yourself: what's my time worth? Do I want to keep actually playing, or do I want to play guitar-tech all of the time? Changing strings sucks. Get Elixirs!
