This snare drum head is super thick, as well as super durable. In fact, it has TWO 10mm Mylar film, where as most heads are made with one. plus the second film has a 5' Black Dot attached to reduce ringyness.

this head is used by many professional drummers, including Travis Barker.

it is great for hard hitters and can get supertight.

This drum head and I have a love hate relationship.

Pros:

Durability. I'm a heavy hitter and it takes everything I've thrown at it.

Tone. The tone of the drum head satisfies me and I tighten the head fairly tight on my snare (319 hz with tunebot).

Price. Right price for the right amount of drum head.

Cons:

Coating. The coating wears off the center within 3-4 two hour practices and makes me feel like a replacement is constantly needed.

Sound. The sound is nice but makes me feel as though there's something more to be desired from it.

Note:

If you tune your snare batter head in the low to mid range, your snare drum will most likely sound dull, thuddy, and overall not very appeasing to the ears. I would not recommend this head to drummers who tune their snare in this way.

Overall the Emperor X is a drum head that keeps me coming back, is durable as hell, but leaves me desiring more from a drum head.

1. Very durable. I really hammer the snare when I play and this is super durable. No problems there.

2. GREAT sound. makes any snare sound FULLER and with more PRESENCE.

3. Can be tuned HIGH. That's one of the best things about it. You can really tune it up. I have mine tuned up to a C. John Bonham style. Check youtube for the video on what that is. Search Bonham+snare+tuning.

Coated heads are the way to go.

I'll be changing all the heads on my kit to coated.

I bought two of these to replace the batter heads on two different snare drums. One went on a Percussion Plus 8-lug wood snare and the other on a vintage Ludwig 8-lug wood snare with internal muffler. Now I know the Ludwig is worth at least 3x as much as the Percussion Plus, but with this head and correct tuning, you would be hard pressed to tell which is which, as they both sound amazing. I play with brushes a lot, and the pop you can get with this head is perfect. With sticks, I can get the snare to really sing out and take center stage. With the two layered design, I don't have to worry about replacing this head anytime soon.

I am using O-rings as well as a little piece of paper towel taped with masking tape to the batter head. I feel it helps reduce the unwanted vibrations produced by the snare drum.

Please note, it is crucial to tune your snare drum correctly. That means the resonant head must be tuned before the batter head. I am using the stock resonant heads on both snares, and they do just fine. If you are using a snare drum with less than 8-lugs, I would suggest upgrading your drum.

I've tried just about every Remo head offered on my (Edge) snare drum and this head is my choice. I have stopped my search for the ultimate snare head and will not use any other drum head for my snare. In my opinion.. It absolutely brings the best sound out of my snare drum.

Used on my free-floater piccolo snare. A slightly heavier head that still has great attack. The coating lasts for about 2 months of gigging, but I don't use the coating for brushes so I normally get 4 months from the head. I tend to replace because the stretch and overtones get funky after that time, but the head never breaks.

The Remo Emperor X is an alright head. It's just a lot thicker than I was anticipating. Due to the thickness I have a really hard time getting the sound I want which is high pitched with a lot of pop. This head, believe it or not, leaves a lot to be desired. I hear a lot of overtones with very little snare. Probably won't be ordering this head in the future.
