Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Nikon's Monarch Laser 800 Rangefinder features Tru-Target technology with first target and distant target priority modes. The original digital processor for super fast and accurate measurement, regardless of the temperature. It is fully waterproof and fogproof with multicoated optics. The incredible yard accuracy has a ranges distance of 11 to 800 yards. It has a 330-foot field of view at 1,000 yards.

Other great features are long eye relief with folding rubber eyecup and focusing diopter. The reticle backlighting option allows the user to light up display in lowlight conditions, and the unique reticle allows users to know ranging in progress. It's compact and lightweight at only 7.4 ounces.

Multicoated Lenses
After the lenses are cut and polished, Nikon coats them with multiple layers of anti-reflective compounds. These compounds serve to boost light transmission, improve contrast (to pull game out of its surroundings), deliver true color rendition, flare-free viewing and generally enhance image quality.

Waterproof and Fogproof
Fogproof means the instrument has been purged of virtually all moisture, air, and gaseous water molecules while in a special chamber in an almost-perfect vacuum state. Then, the instrument is filled with nitrogen gas and sealed securely with O-rings. Waterproof instruments also have water immersion capabilities.

What's in the Box:
Rangefinder, 3-volt lithium battery, belt case, and neck lanyard.

5.0 out of 5 stars Monarch 800 - Best in Class, December 21, 2006

This review is from: Nikon Monarch Laser 800 Rangefinder (Black) (Electronics)
I use my rangefinder for golf and have used products from both Simmons and Bushnell. The Nikon Monarch 800 is in a class by itself in terms of quality of construction, ease of use and performance. The Near Target Priority Mode makes it simple and fast to get yardages to flagsticks or course features. The laser is very sensitive and will detect flagsticks even when the flags are hanging limp and when there are no reflectors on them. It is compact and comes with a high quality carry pouch. It is well worth the money and blows away anything else I've tried.

5.0 out of 5 stars Used for Golf, October 7, 2006

Wanted to write this review after not finding one on this product from anyone who used it for golf. After purchasing the Nikon 800 Monarch Rangefinder I used it for the first time today for golf. This product worked great, easy to use, and helped me dial in the distance. I would recommend this item for use in golf.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works like a champ!, July 7, 2008
By Choo Choo (New York USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nikon Monarch Laser 800 Rangefinder (Black) (Electronics)
Got the Nikon 800 rangefinder last week and have used it on two rounds of golf so far. It works like a champ. Easy to carry and easy to use. Lightweight, picks out your target very quickly (no warm up time), and the scan mode is great to make sure you've hit your desired target.

Caveats: I've only ranged flags up to 250 yds (haven't tried anything farther). The farther you are the more difficult it is to hold the rangefinder steady on your target, so you're more likely to get objects in the background as your hand moves back & forth. You just have to learn to toss out the 310 yd reading and use the 250 yd one instead.

If using for golf, note that the default setting is NOT First Target Priority. Read the directions to set it to FTP. You'll see a "G" in the display if FTP is set correctly (who knows what "G" means!).

p.s. I bought the kit with the orange hunting vest and the retractable lanyard. Don't know what I'm going to do with the vest, but the retractable lanyard is great to hang the rangefinder off my golf bag. I only wonder if its exterior will be scratched up over time...
