5.0 out of 5 stars Hidden Treasures..., March 24, 2005
This CD, along with the Golden Years of Andres Segovia 1952 - 1954 contains unreleased (until now) recordings on CD from Segovia's first six vinyl lp's on the Decca label. These have been digitally remastered at the same bit rate as the recent re-releases from Deutsche Grammophon of Segovia's Decca (MCA) recordings.
So the recordings sound great and match up perfectly with the DG recordings! Even more important than that, this CD along with the one mentioned above, one can now reconstruct entirely, or "burn" or "rip" three of Segovia's early Decca Lp recordings, (i.e. An Evening with Andres Segovia..DL9733, Segovia Plays..DL9734, and the historical and very yellow jacket cover of the "Chaconne"..DL9751.) plus a fair portion of three earlier vinyl Lp's. (i.e. An Andres Segovia Recital DL9633, An Andres Segovia Concert DL9638, and An Andres Segovia Program DL9647.)
I apologize for all the information and catalog numbers but I'm trying to make a point. Yes, Segovia was a great guitarist and musician, but in recent years with the recording industry such as it is, and current marketing techniques, the concept of those early Lp's have long since been lost. And in essence ...the true art of Andres Segovia...
Do yourself a favor and purchase the above mentioned CD's, and do some research (i.e. the library of Congress is a good place to start or even try Ebay.) and reconstruct those original Lp's. That's how Segovia should be and purposely intenteded to be heard, at least with in the limits of sound recording.
