Product Description

Product Description

Set in 18K white gold, this exotic and fashionable black Tahitian south sea cultured pearl ring features a perfectly round, perfectly clean black green pearl set aside a gold and diamond surround. A staple of any woman's wardrobe, a pearl ring is a classic that can accompany her through all the important occasions of her life. Black pearls with the sought-after green overtones are amongst the rarest colors. This pearl is "A Quality", the highest grade of the A, B, C and D nomenclature assigned to grade black Tahitian south sea pearls. The allure of the black pearl is in the way it captures light, refines it and delivers it back in a dark incandescent glow. This ring features an 8mm pearl and .18 carats of G color, VS1 clarity diamonds. Unlike gems that are extracted from the earth and polished, the pearl is the only gem originating from a living organism. American Pearl is widely regarded as perhaps the most reliable and honest source of wholesale pearls anywhere in the world. In business since 1950, American Pearl's networking legacy is a key reason we are able to operate with the huge patchwork of inside sources and large economy of scale that enable us to import at such drastically reduced prices -- a savings we happily pass on to our many loyal customers.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great ring, not as advertised, January 12, 2009
By ZR1 (Matthews, NC United States) - See all my reviews
The ring arrived in a very nice American Pearl box with polishing cloth, velvet bag, and guarantee policy. Presentation was very good.

The good: The setting is well done. The diamonds have good fire and are 'white' enough to compliment the white gold. They are also color-matched well to each other. They are not exactly the same size on close inspection, but are too small to really notice from more than a few inches away.

The bad: The pearl is not black at all like most south sea pearls and has no green overtone. It is medium grey and looks nothing like the pearl pictured on Amazon or American Pearl's website. This is also NOT an 18K ring, it is clearly stamped "14K" inside the band. If the pearl color was not enough to make you return it, the lesser quantity of gold than advertised should be.

Conclusion: Overall it is a very pretty ring even though the pearl doesn't look anything like the pearl you are expecting to receive, nor like 90% of south sea pearls. The setting is really nice. It is not 18 karat gold making this ring about $80-100 less valuable.

I contacted American Pearl two weeks ago per the instructions that came in the box, and I have yet to receive a response. To be fair, I will update my review based on their response if one is received.
