There isnt much other selection out there, but the Irwin hole saw seems to hold its teeth better then most the other brands, and I have tried almost every other brand out there, this is easily the longest lasting.

I bought this saw for cutting holes for a bean bag toss game (known as Cornhole in the Ohio area). This is a very high quality product and the saw is very agressive in terms of being able to chew through wood. If you are going to be drilling by hand though, you may want to use a saw with more teeth that will go smoother, this one can be hard to control with a hand drill, I've got a cut across the front of one of my T-shirts to prove it.
Also of note, you will need to purchase a mandrel bit seperately to use the saw, there is not one included.
Overall I would recommend the saw, but warn people to use a variable speed drill at a low speed if you are going to be drilling by hand.

I was recently suckered into making a pair of cornhole game boxes for my lady friend. The requirements of the game call for a 6" hole to be located exactly 9" down and 12" over from one end of the 2' by 4' box.

The bit doesn't come with the necessary mandrel but that wasn't a problem for me as I just used the mandrel I had earlier purchased for another hole saw. Those mandrels hold a small drill bit in the center to use as a guide for hole placement. The sheer size and bulk of the hole saw covered any direct view of the penciled in mark I'd made on my panel. It took a bit of work to get the tip of that small drill bit centered on the hole. I had coupled the hole saw to a rather hefty DeWalt corded hammer drill and touched the trigger. Even though I had what I thought was control of the drill using both handles, the drill took an immediate hop out of the hole the second the larger outside cutting surface started to bite in. I couldn't stop it. I ended up with a hole not where I wanted it to be.

Thinking about my mistakes, here's what I did to prevent a repeat: 1) I clamped down the workpiece. 2) I predrilled a small 1/4" hole exactly where I wanted the center of the bigger hole to be. This allowed me to see exactly where I was drilling. 3) I located the resulting hole by feel without engaging the teeth of the hole saw and eased it down. 4) Making sure I was higher than the work piece so I could use my weight to control the drill, I EASED the teeth of the saw down into the workpiece with an absolute death grip on the drill. SUCCESS!!!

This will do the job but it's not for the wimpy. I don't recommend using a cordless drill and if your drill has a second handle to control torque, you had better plan on using it.

Saw was only used to cut 4 holes in 1/2" plywood. I used a battery powered drill and was able to drill the holes just fine. It's a bit much for a battery operated drill, however it worked just fine with some patience. Do not let your drill excessively overheat.

I can't really comment too much on the extended use on this, but it got the job done just fine and appears to be a good quality saw.

Got this as a close out at an Amazon vendor for only $1 plus about $5 shipping, and could not be happier. This is a very heavy duty excellent quality hole saw.
What I liked most about this hole saw is the multiple ways I could attach it to a drive system. The hole saw has what looks like a 3/8" pipe thread hole in the center of the base. It also has two sets of 1/4" holes (most hole saws only have one set) in the base in a cross (+) configuration with the center 3/8" pipe thread hole in the center of the cross.
This was important for me, because I used this hole saw in a unique way. I used the 1/4" holes to run 2 threaded bolts through a PVC coupling I created and glued together, and secured the hole saw to the pvc coupling with lock washers and nuts. Then I attached multiple 10' lengths of 3/4" PVC pipe to this coupling as a snake to clean out roots that had accumulated in some of my underground 3" drain pipes. I had to oversize the drive end of the system to 1" pvc and add a galvanized hex nut pipe fitting for extra strength and durability (before I was breaking off the 3/4" pvc connectors at the drive end), and powered the whole assembly with a 1/2" pneumatic impact driver. In the final configuration, I was able to extend the assembly to a total length of 50' using 5 sections of 3/4" pvc pipe to clean out all the tree roots along the entire length of the drain.
My situation was unique, and this hole saw worked perfect for it. But I believe that this hole saw would also work excellent for any traditional hole drilling needs. You just have to make sure you can attach it to your drive system.

Heavy duty, perfect for cutting out holes for recessed ceiling lights. I have some I put thru a ceiling with barn tin which wouldn't be cut with other drywall cutters. This worked clean and perfect once the center guide bit was installed (used one from my smaller hole saw set).

I needed to drill through 3/16" steel plate. The teeth are so sharp that it cut through with no problems. I would definitely buy more of these in other sizes. They are inexpensive and work just as good as the more expensive saws.
